Fujifilm GFX tether app on Win 11

Since years i use this cable, and it's excellent, about speed, charging power, really flexible and still working great after years of almost daily use.

Tether Tools cables are like silk ribbon in price , but there are some sold at Wex here in the UK that look reasonable

They also sell a plate that screws into the tripod socket and you pass the cable through it to capture it and ensure no pulling out . I am however not investing further in this issue until the problem is discovered.

This seem only a data cable (with no charging) . If your camera doesn't come with a cable fixation system (for example xh2/s come with a locking mechanism) you can buy, as i did, a cheap arca swiss plate with a path to lock the cable under the plate. Otherwise a simple piece of gaffer will does the job

Frustrating software releases have been a Fujifilm tradition.
Hasselblad, too. Think this is a medium format thing? (Just kidding).
Sometimes it seems that the more expensive the gear, the worse the software and support.

My first Howtec drum scanner cost me $52,000. In 1992 dollars!

No software! None.

It came with instructions on how to program the machine with a Basic-like language, (explained in a tiny booklet) on a character screen input!!!

I went ballistic after the delivery team left my shop. I had no idea that I had been looking at "fake" control software when the sales pitch was being made. They had my money and I was threatening to sue. Somehow the salesman managed to get a beta version of software that some third party was developing. It was terrible.

I wrote code that focused the scanner and got me 16-bit RGB files, with no color space (of course, there was NO color management then - that needed Photoshop 5-6). But I kept our presses running 36 hours a day with beautiful CMYK printing.

Flat bed scanners of the day had much better software.

And that's how most of the '90s went until Photoshop had matured enough and several Photoshop scanner plug-ins came into existence. Also terrible.

Finally some mediocre programs were released, but Howtek itself never developed anything. It was all third party. Great hardware. Awful software.

That last comment ,placed against Rich's comment is interesting. Can you stop charging with a specific cable config ? Is this an issue for data transit ?

I used to shoot 5" -4" for brochures and scan it at home with a scanner I bought .... it still sits in my cupboard.. Powerlook 2000 with a software called Binuscan . In the day it was amazing and I , with the aid of Quark and Photoshop, used to do everything ready for the Heidelberg.

I never had a single problem charging the battery while tethering, at the opposite I can shoot a whole day without changing the battery.

I don't have a recent gfx to check, but on xh2/s you can set if usb connection are used only for data or even for charging. Maybe it's the same in recent gfx

In my GFX S2 it has several settings from USB General to USB tethered shooting , and USB cards reader , USB webcam, USB Raw converter plus several open slots for you to add your own settings. None state USB charging or a way to limit that.

Yes!

Thanks for highlighting this issue.

The GFX 100S Menu (Wrench) has "USB Power Supply Setting: On:Off"

Hang on a minute..... just down the main menu there is a set of options that you can open to select charge only or data only etc ...... SO it is a case of when in doubt RTFM !

Good.

But as i said before, in years tethering Fujifilm camera in studio i never had an issue charging the camera while tethering, and it's really pratical to forget about having to replace the battery.

If you prefer to don't use your batteries, just buy a dummy battery only for studio use.
I was planning to do that, but didn't know if there was a dummy battery for the GFX. This has been only my first few hours using a tethering cable with my GFX 100S.

I have always done that with my Nikon equipment.

On phone as PC busy tethering ..... looks a bit better... will say more after testing ... cheers Mr Hat

I'm using a dummy battery with my GFX 100 II.

After a very brief play it seems like the singular transit option is the way, and the shortest cable of the highest quality helps. I have found that for bracketing several steps seem to work for me ....
  1. Select USB tethering option in camera menu
  2. Select Data and no power in menu ( just below ala Hat)
  3. Select Focus bracketing in the camera top left button first but thats all
  4. Connect computer with good USB C to C keep as short as poss.
  5. Wait for camera to be recognised and select live view
  6. Click on screen of computer to select the nearest point first, allow time to locate and for the screen display to show the distance scale ( below live view)
  7. Take the top dropper and click on the front point selected, it should locate this and show a distance on its slider.
  8. Repeat by finger/mouse clicking on the furthest point, then select with lower dropper again waiting for it to register and show the distance scale.
When selecting focus points it is easy to think you can go to the edge of the display, but the truth is it has to be within the bounds of the focus points , so allow room for a soft edge if focus is critical. Zoom is still not working whilst bracketing , and its still a bit clunky , but hey this is progress........ well enough for me to consider a Pro grade tether cable.

Not working here. No sequence of actions (I've run through every permutation) works.

OK thats interesting, where in the loop do you fall from grace ? Is there any success at all ?

Am I taking it for granted that the norrmal ( camera commanded ) bracket requires you to go to the camera menu and select either AUTO or Manual bracketing ( and options for each ) I have Auto selected already and no delay as on a tripod I am using either electronic or similar shutter.

Full disclosure I am on C1 which for me sets these options and turns IBIS off too .
