Nikonusa store issues

Hello all.

This is my 1st experience buying from nikonusa.

They have a refurb sale going on and i thought it was a good opportunity to try out the z system.

So i had to order 6 times total.

An error message popped up 3 times saying to contact my bank. My bank had no issues and said it was nikon that blocked the order due to possible fraud. Nikon canceled 2 orders. I finally placed the order after spending 2 hours calling people.

Now i get an email staying UPS will deliver within a time frame when i am at work. I make request to ups to have it held at the local ups but the option is turned off.

I am told to call nikon.

I call nikon and am told by the support staff that they cannot change any shipping options once an order is placed and they know their webstore has issues but they cannot do anything about it. They say if it cant get delivered i will get 100 percent refund and can order again.

Now i am having reservations about trying the z system, because if it is this hard to give them money, how would be the warranty service if i have issues?

  1. Anyone else have similar issues?

I ordered a refurb Z9 + 105 1.4 from Nikon EU store last year. It took them a week before shipping out, despite the stuff being listed on stock and it being a 6k euro order. When it was here, the battery was DOA, and although there was no discussion (the problem was acknowledged after I described my tests) it took them nearly a month to send a replacement battery due to stock issues; they did not consider my offer to buy one at my local store (which had it on stock) and have Nikon refund me. (the Z9-batter cost 209 euro)

All in all, the price of the Z9 + 105 1.4 was OK, so I decided to sit it out. But unless the Nikon-price is really competitive (which usually it isn't) I'd rather order at reputable local retailers.

I wouldnt let you discourage this from shooting Nikon, but maybe you can consider another shop.

Besides, all other brands have their own list of issues.

*EDIT* I bought a 2nd battery anyway the day I received the camera, this was planned, but had to do with just one for the 1st month.

You're buying refurb stuff from their refurb outlet. Don't be suprised that it isn't as seamless as buying retail from B&H.

As for picking it up from the UPS depot, I don't see how that is in Nikon's control. Sounds like the UPS person was just dusting you off.

Fwiw, I bought a number of things directly from Nikon (new and refurb) and never really had a problem. I've also had to use their customer service when I dropped and broke a body. It was handled just fine.

Thanks for the feedback.

About the shipping issue , since nikon is the original shipper they have no control over shipping modifications? I find that strange.

We ship a lot of stuff where I work with a business shipping account. In my experience you set up the terms of shipping when you submit the shipment. After that it is out of your control.

I litterally just got a refurb lens in the last sale and the only stipulation Nikon put on it was that it had to be signed for by an adult. I've bought other stuff from B&H (who also require a signature upon delivery) a lot and in multiple cases I have picked packages up at the local depot after they tried to deliver it the first time.

I would suggest calling your local UPS depot AFTER they have received the package, and ask that it be held for pickup.

Thanks for the advice.

Nikon giving 50 percent and the tariff hikes prompted me to make a decision to buy.

The last time i shot nikon was with the e3400 and e5200. Have borrowed a friends d5000 and d7200 and like the tracking colors. Otherwise have never owned their dslrs nor mirrorless.

I thought batteries were always shipped in discharged state from Nikon.

This is probably easier if you make an account at UPS.com rather than calling them. Online, you can set up a hold where they won't attempt delivery on certain days or you can request that they hold at the depot for you to pick it up.

I don't know. The replacement battery they sent had some charge in it, as had the battery I got from a local store. The issue with the original was not that is was merely discharged, as my testing showed; it was dead / defective.

This is good advice.

I recall having similar problems with changing a delivery, and once I set up an account I was able to hold the package at my local UPS store. The same applies to FedEx.

I am in the US, so I don't know if this works in other countries.

Well, I agree. But the OP seemed a little skittish about shipping. So there's a certain level of comfort having a local person confirm they have set the pack aside for local pickup.

I used to work a few blocks from the local depot, and calling to confirm they would hold the package (thus making sure it was not out for another delivery attempt) made it worth driving over on my lunch hour.

Already tried upschoice.

The delivery range is 4 hours so driving home is not gusranteed to be in my time window. Anyhow ill keep trying

I made a ups mychoice account but still couldnt change it to ups store pickup.
As someone else pointed out, you may need to wait until the package is in possession of UPS to trigger that option. (Also, a depot is not the same as a UPS store. The depot is the regional warehouse where packages are dropped off by the semi trucks and put onto delivery trucks. I've done depot pickup, but I'm not sure if store pickup is an option.)

You should be able to set a stretch of "do not deliver" days that will apply to all packages at any time. UPS may call this a vacation deferral or similar, I'm not sure of the term. That will at least stop them from trying to deliver on days you know you won't be home.

Hi thanks. I spoke to nikonusa and they told that deliveries would only be on weekdays, otherwise i could wait on a saturday. If this doesnt work out maybe i can get them to customize the delivery settings on the re order.

In my experience, UPS won’t take any alternate action until after the first failed attempt. Then they’ll hold it at the depot for you if you ask.

I also live in the US, and have a postal box at the local UPS Store for exactly this reason. They can accept UpS, FedEx, DHL, etc

I have a UPS MyChoice account with delivery set to a specific UPS store, local to me. When something is sent to me via UPS, the UPS system automatically routes the package to the specific UPS store I requested in my account, I do not have to make any attempt to have the package sent to the UPS Store, it is just done by UPS. The store generally then calls or emails me when the package is at the store, but I typically will follow the UPS tracking for the delivery to the store. Then I just go to the store and pick the package up. Though, if I get to the store to early, the store may have not yet processed the package into the stores data base, so be patient and the store will find the package. I have, at least once, needed to go back to the store to get the package.

Good luck & Stay Safe!

I think if its this much trouble i may just quit because the houston depot is more than an hour from my house.

Im reading some other reviews of nikonusa and it seems my issues with checkout and delivery are not new.

Thanks for the feedback.

My experience is the opposite. I have used both vacation holds and depot pickups without first having a missed delivery. I scheduled them through the UPS website. Scheduling a depot pickup did require that I know the shipping number.

The last time I did a depot pickup was a while ago, though, so that process for that may have changed. I've used a vacation hold more recently.

Do you have a friend or family member who could come during the window of time? Can you put a note on your door to have it delivered to a neighbor who is home? Possibly leave a note that you give permission for them to leave the package at your door with your signature?

I just bought a lens from Nikon but my husband’s job is flexible so he cut out of work early but I was home from work when UPS came. For ,e, it’s the only downfall in buying direct from them.
