Looking for storage options for this lens, its one thing I do miss from the old F mount lenses is they at least came with a softshell bag for storage. Its not been taken of my camera too often yet but when it does I don't have anything suitable to put it in apart from its box, any suggestions?

I typically store my lenses in large Pelican cases with desiccants at home or car travel, but I also bought a Ruggard lens case for my 400 4.5. Unfortunately the largest one they make is too narrow for it with the reversed hood (the hood on the 400 is fairly large). It's a perfect fit for my 100-400 with reversed hood however, and I use it for that. Here's a link. There may be other options out there, but this is a good one and pretty cheap.

Way overkill for just one lens, but I bought the Ruggard 125L humidity control cabinet and store all my photo gear, my telescope OTA and eyepieces, and binoculars in it. I wanted one place to keep everything when not in use and a combination storage and mold-protection cabinet seemed the right solution. I now have three bodies in there, my 6” cat OTA, five eyepieces, two pairs of binoculars, a box of filters, and about 12 lenses from 8.5mm to 180-600.

I waited and bought mine on a Black Friday sale for about half its current price.

Just one more thought…

I normally store mine in a compartment in one of my many Think Tank bags. If you want to store it alone, then it fits easily into a Think Tank Lens Changer 150. There's also the LensCoat LensPouch range listed at B&H. It should fit in one of those.

I also have some soft lens bags. Some are Etsumi that I bought at Yodobashi Camera in Tokyo, others are Tamrac draw string padded pouches, but I' think these might be discontinued.

It might be easiest to just look at the B&H website and see what's available.

When traveling or out using my gear, I'm overall happy using the Protatic 450 bag for larger lenses like these.

For regular storage at home, I find these lenses sit just fine on the shelf with just their lens caps...

I have a few of the older Lowepro 13cm x 32cm that I use to carry a Z 100-400, and even the Z 600/6.3. That's if my Lowepro Protactic 450 is already filled with other gear and I need to transport it separately in my car. Otherwise, I have a Pelican 1560 and 1650 cases with several rechargeable desiccant containers to store all my gear for prolonged periods.

I have two options that I use. Occasionally, I will pack the lens in a Lowepro LP36307 Lens Case (size 13 x 32 cm) But that is for long term storage, with the 1.4TC attached.

But 90% of the time, the lens lives in my Tenba Axis v2 4L Top Loader Camera Bag. That bag is designed to carry a lens with the body mounted, and I often do that, carrying the lens and my Z50ii over my shoulder in the bag, which has two stretchy side pocket options for carrying the TC in a neopreene pouch as well. The Tenba Axis V2 4L has a zip out extension pocket on the bottom of the bag which makes it long enought to carry the 100-400 with a small body attached, or with a TC attached.

Tenba Axis with extended space expanded, allowing bag to carry lens and body. TC goes in side pocket.

I recommend the BYOB Camera Insert system from Tenba. The 9 size can hold the lens diagonally or the 10 size has room for a 2nd smaller lens.

I use a couple TinkTank roller bags. One of the lenses is a 100-400.

Get a used pouch for the old 70-200 AF-S lens on eBay. That's what I ended up doing.

This is another good (but bulkier) option:

Thanks everyone! I went for a lowepro case in the end should be just the thing. Might get a rucksack for longer days out too.
