Hi,

I'm about to order a used OM SYSTEM OM-1 from MPB in "Excellent" condition.

Prices range from £929 to £994 GBP - Used OM SYSTEM OM-1 | MPB. Obviously price varies depending on what is included, so I can check that.

With like-for-like accessories, what else determines the price? Is it just cosmetic condition (which I'm not bothered about), or potentially other things that are worth paying a little extra for?

Thank you for your help!

Kenji

Over the years I've purchased a number of Olympus bodies from MPB, and found that the condition is usually better than indicated. I believe their condition rating is primarily based on cosmetic condition; I've never been concerned with shutter count since I only use electronic shutter. One "Like New" camera I purchased had an non-functional USB port, so I returned it and got another from them. That was the only body I ever bought from MPB that had an issue. MPB has a no-questions-asked return policy and a warranty so I've never hesitated to buy from them.

In my experience it’s cosmetic condition and what is included.

I can turn Excellent to Good in a couple of hours of use, so I don’t bother about condition either. The premium for Like New isn’t worth it. With Good, it’s worth looking at the photos.

Specific to the first OM-1, smooth operation of the front and rear dials seems to vary. Some folks had to have repairs for very tight dial action. Blue paint seems apt to disappear from the playback button. (The mkii has corrected the issues.)

I wouldn't buy one on line without assurance of full-refund return rights.

Past those, pricing should reflect physical condition and shutter count, same as any camera. They're not collectable in any sense and unlikely to appreciate down the road.

Thank you everyone, that was extremely helpful. Thanks for the pointer to the new one on HDEW, I would be happy to buy a grey import from their as that's where I got my EM5.3, but unfortunately they are out of stock.

I just ordered an "Excellent" OM-1 from MPB after scrutinising the photos very carefully. So thanks for that tip.

Fingers crossed it has no gremlins. Really appreciated everyone's help :-)

Thanks,

Kenji

Did you buy an OM-1 or OM-1 Mark II? Not that the earlier version is a dog!

Check for a clean sensor. At least clean at f11. I have new, used, refurbished cameras arrive with sensor spots. If spot(s) turn on/off several times or run clean function depending on the camera model.
