At the time FujiRumors posted this we did not know if even one of these lenses would become reality. https://www.fujirumors.com/fujifilm...es-and-talks-gfx-r-and-fixed-lens-gfx-future/

However we now know that the (#4) 23mm pancake is coming this year.
So what is the most logical next choice for a new Fujinon?
I think (and hope), it is the XF16-200 for which Fujifilm already has a patent.
This would be an excellent replacement for the now decade old XF 18-135mm and would be different than anything currently available in the X-mount, including third party lens makers.

It would be great if Fuji came out with a long f4 prime yet unless they fill it with helium, you will not see me carrying one around.

Maybe a handle would help?😉

My wish too, but there may be a big dilemma for fuji here... do they aim for the best IQ at a high price/weight/size or a light, consumer zoom? I think they should aim for the best IQ and maybe reduce the zoom ratio, as we already have the mediocre 18-300 and 16-300.

I think it's time Fuji put more focus on continuing to refresh the current lineup. If they are going to do 3 lenses a year for example- one new and two refreshes, or some similar ratio.

A 16-200 seems like too much of a compromise given the reviews on the other super zooms out there as mentioned. Maybe a 16-135, or even 16-120 at f/4 (or variable aperture) at red badge, or near red badge quality. If not a 16-120, then a 16-80 refresh (or 15-70/80 ish).

I envy Nikon shooters with the 24-120 (especially given what looks like a decent size for full frame). I've also mentioned before some envy for the old Canon ef-s 15-85mm range (and thought about adapting it with fringer adapter). It was considered near L-level quality at the time it was released. The 18-135 and 16-80 are not usually given as top reasons to get into, or stay with t Fuji system- and they should be.

I think it's also time for 100-400 refresh to try and reduce size/weight (if possible) and increase quality. This makes sense to me, given the release and positive response to the 500mm and 150-600. Makes the 100-400 look outdated.

Another refresh waiting for an upgrade is probably the 10-24, given its hit or miss reputation for image quality. APS-C is always a challenge on the wide end- make it less so.

A new lens that I think is missing is a 50-140 (or similar) f/4 constant. If not 50-140, closer to 50/60/70-250, although maybe that would be too close to the 55-200. There seems a hole in the lineup between the 50-140 and 55-200.

Some type of prime beyond 90mm makes sense. 105/120 ish.

A Fuji native wide prime that would work for astro- somewhere between the 8-14 range at f/1.4 or f/1.8 makes sense as well.

My personal sense of Fuji is less need for new focal ranges compared to giving the current line up a better business/reputation case.

Gonna go look for my magic 8 ball now. 😎

Agreed.

Agreed. Also, I prefer to have two shorter focal length lenses to carry and use than one larger/heavier do-it-all lens.

Agreed, a smaller/lighter version and with improved IQ would be welcome. That said, I have no complaints vis my copy of the 100-400.

Absolutely agree here. I have long argued that a duo of red badge f4s, 16-50 and 50-140, would make an excellent travel and general purpose kit that would be relatively small and light. With the new XF16-50f4.8 we nearly have the standard zoom, not red badge, but its IQ and build are pretty decent, and not f4 throughout the focal range, but again acceptable. A 50-140ish companion to complement the 16-50 would be very compelling.
Gonna go look for my magic 8 ball now. 😎
Ah!

Interesting, thank you for sharing.

There's obviously no refresh planned of the XF 8-16 (similar to what they did with the XF 16-55).

Well, UWA is of course a much smaller business case than standard zoom range.

So, I will just continue to be happy with my 8-16 :)

Curious however about the astro prime.

Cheers,

Martin

It's great to see that Fuji doesn't forget the lovers of small cameras. i'm very interested in the 23mm pancake that could transfer my X-Pro2 into an X100 like camera.

1200mm f5.6 is what happens when you use a full frame to do the work of a APS-C. Nice photo of Jared Polin at work. The handle is simply to help you move it into a case with wheels.

The XF 16-200 is doing well in this FujiRumors poll and is the favorite choice of the guy who owns the site as well. https://www.fujirumors.com/future-f...ith-suggested-specs-vote-what-should-be-next/

After viewing all the available images I could find on the net shot with the Sigma and Tamron super zooms I agree with you they are mediocre at best and appear to have a lot of copy variation in terms of IQ. Some of the images looked acceptable , but some were not at all.
I think Fujifilm would chose to make the XF 16-200 a consumer zoom similar to the current XF 18-135mm, but with better IQ. If Fujifilm ever does offer the XF 16-200mm it would probably make the XF 16-80mm redundant in their lens lineup though.

From a business perspective it doesn't make much sense to make another consumer zoom. We already have the 18-135, 18-120, 18-300 and now the 16-300. What the system really misses is a red badge 16-135 (f4-5.6 or even f2.8-5.6) similar to the Olympus 12-100 or the FF Tamron 28-200.

I’d preorder an XF lens that gave me the equivalent of the Sony 20-70 F4. Super flexible travel range and minimizes the need to carry a separate wide lens. With 40mp bodies like the X-T5 -plenty of resolution for cropping.

12-45 / 12-50 F4, anyone? :)

Come to think of it the m4/3 12-45 F4 Pro is a really sweet lens. Compact, light and sharp.

“Case with wheels” is a euphemism for “truck”, right? 🙂

I have the 20-70 and is indeed a fantastic lens, impressive in many things, especially suitable for landscapes, cities, close ups. However I don't see it as a priority for Fuji now. They have recently released two normal zooms starting at 16mm which cover about 80% of what a Fuji 20-70 would cover. I think creating a quality super zoom should be a higher priority.

50-140 f4 is a great idea. The one lens type I miss from M43s is super compact telephoto options - it opens up a lot of shooting opportunities for telephoto street and lightweight travel. I like my 70-300 a lot, but leave it at home most of the time.

I would like to see an updated version of the 8-16mm f2.8 much smaller and lighter with no bulb lens and that can accept normal screw in filters.

And then an updated 50-140mm f2.8 (or f4) smaller and lighter with macro function/capability: and if possible compatible with tele converter.

But that is not that far from the 18-135/f5.6 or 18-120/f4. 70-300 is not that heavy or big anyway.

I don’t recall a lens like this being mentioned so I’m sure you’re right. I only keep the XF 18-135 for infrared use. Brilliant for that job - no hotspots on an 830nm converted XE1

The 20-70 has replaced the 17-28 + 28-200 for me as minimal travel kit for Sony so I’d love the sane for Fuji however unlikely that may be.

I'd love a SHORT F4 prime (like 300mm). Make it 400g and sharp, it would be just fabulous.
