This is an update for all those out there waiting for Dell to deliver a 1D. I just received a computer generated phone message advising me that my new shipping date is 1/12/04. It went on to say that I don't need to do anything if that date is OK, if not call Dell to cancel.

P.S. Now I've got to decide whether the $300.00 difference between Dell and B&H is worth the six week wait, and not having the 1D for my Florida Xmas Vacation (I do have a Canon Digital Rebel, Sony DSC-F717, Canon S-30, & Canon S-200 available to make the trip!!!).

rich,

If you look at the threads on the struggle to get the 70-200 2.8 IS lens from dell with out of order deliveries, sales agents vanishing, orders being cancelled, a Dell_bot giving ultimatum's for cancelation, people still waiting who ordered Sept 19th-23rd 2003 while others who ordered later (myself included) have recieved the lens!

I's pay the extra 300 and get the camera from BHVideo because you'll definately enjoy it right now and that's worth it if you can find the money!

You could still get the camera tomorrow or in January or never. They don't necessarily know. It is not a Dell product, after all.

BTW, if I had to wait till mid January, i'd sure consider waiting 6 weeks longer to get the coveted 1D replacement!

Asher,

I'm gong to have to think about this one for a bit. I agree that it's tempting to wait for the 1D replacement. I'm just not sure that it'll be at a price point that is in my range (the 1D from Dell is $2,600 tax & delivery included). Also there will probably be the usual feeding frenzy and new model shortages that will drive true availablity into late Spring.

I recently sold my 1Ds & was using my wife's 10D, but the limitations of the 10D where really bugging me:

A local dealer had a 1D new in the box & came within $200 of Dells price, so I bought it from them.

I had thought about waiting on the next model from Canon, but it might be a year before it is readily available & I can not wait that long. I will still probably buy the next model, but not until the bugs are worked out & the price has dropped at least once.

about $30 per week for the next 3 months and you'll probably have enough $ for the replacement.
