Hey everyone.

Don't own a nikon body but have plenty of ef mount lenses.

Canons decision to discontinue the eos m line was disappointing, otherwise I would have purchased from within this system.

I am looking for a small crop body similar to the eos m with modern performance and saw the z30. No evf or IBIS unfortunately but small enough to fit in a hip bag or even cargo pants pocket. Mag body shell seems nice.

Please comment on the performance on Ef performance on z body with fringer af adapter performance.

Thanks in advance.

Having owned EOS M system and now Nikon Z, my first concern would be the size : with Fringer adapter, your Z30 based system will never have the small size of any EOS M based system.

On the other hand, I now own ZF with Fringer and, for instance, EF 100mm F/2. This combo is by far my favorite one for little concerts and portraits. AF works better than any EOS before + you have excellent IBIS.

I won't get the Z30, because I see no advantage with it as its AF is of previous generation, so maybe even just as good as EOS M6 for instance. If size is a concern, maybe you should look for second hand EOS M6 I or II... to my sense, that would be better and will last enough anyway.

What kind of z do you have ? One of the small crop bodies or ff?

He said he had the Zf, which is full frame, retro style camera.

Check the Z50ii. It is the smaller body size, but has some of the AF performance enhancements.

Why not just wait for the R50V/RV which should be announced tomorrow. One of the two should be similar to the Z30 and you can probably just use an existing EOS R to M adapter. I would just hold off for a day or two and see what Canon announces tomorrow.

I'm personally not one that likes to adapt lenses unless it's using OEM adapters as it can be a hit or miss with some of the third party adapters (regardless of price) and even more of a potential headache when adapting across systems.

Looks like r50v just dropped. No evf, no ibis, slow zoom. Yeah this is not what I want. I wonder why these companies don't allow even option of smart hotshot mounted evf?

I'll keep using my old camera and smartphone until something more compelling is released.

Maybe nikon could put an evf off to the side for the z30 mk ii.
I would say if you want something faster then I'd look at the Sony a6400 or 6700 if you want IBIS then. You'd also be getting an EVF but they would cost a bit more (about 2x as much if you get the a6700 but that sounds like it may fit your needs better).

I don't think Nikon will put an EVF on a Z30 II as it would just be an EVF-less version of the Z50 II.
