Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

Nice capture and great picture Harri and taken the way I do on snowy days (which aren't many where I now live) through glass! ...

Great composition and well done ..... It looks to be somewhere around the Garden of the Gods but I don't remember that particular rock formation. ...

Nice picture of a subject we don't often. or often enough, see around here! ... My E30 sits in a drawer .. long retired I fear .. I always liked that camera and thought, and still think, it had the best handling grip of any camera I have had .....

Very nice, as always when we take these walks .... and i hope you continue while I sit here with my coffee and wait for you to come back with these pictures as I think my hiking days are over. I now limit my walks to only a couple miles and even then look for trails with benches along the way or maybe I'll settle for a comfortable rock or log ... actually I might now prefer to just stay here on this chair with my coffee .. I have more for you when you come back ...

Nicely done ... these pictures make me wish I could spend a day walking through these gardens with you ...... but then I just did! ...

A good set WN.
Thank you , Andrew ...
I like the wildflowers. Our daffodils are up about four inches now, but flowers are not yet out.I
Our daffodils are plentiful and will continue attracting attention until the Peonies and roses start to bloom later this month or next ....
need to get out and rake out the leaves. I will wear a back brace and see how long I can last after a winter of doing nothing.
Take care of that back ... it can be debilitating if you're not careful .. I spent three weeks, each week in different years, trips to Drs and many Cat Scans to come to that conclusion ... Now i do nothing that might irritate the back So I hope you are careful with it so we can continue to admire your pictures ....

It's good to have a walk around the Gardens with you WN and to see what's emerging now the days are getting longer.
Always glad to have you along ...
I like the Wood anemones and the blossom on the Cherry looks beautiful against the blue sky.
I hope our gardens will finally recover from the Pandemic when the Gardens lost many, if not all, the volunteers and let many employees go ... Many factors have led to changes in our BG which seems to be emphasizing more events that attract tourist rather than attending to all the garden areas as they use to ...

We'll take more walks as the year begins to warm but once hot I'll probably not go as often ...

A wonderful set of images WN.
Thank you Dave .....
Spring has definitely sprung.
It seems to have and the Peonies and Day Lilies, when they show up, will confirm it
It was especially nice to enjoy this set while nursing an aching back after spending time cleaning up the garden.

Maybe I should pay someone younger to do the heavy work but we Scots think long and hard before parting with any money.😊
As I mentioned to Andrew take care of the back and give it deference ... It took me too long to reach that idea but so far so good ... Money well spent to save a back and let younger and willing backs do the heavy lifting ...

I think it is a nice picture .... I suspect I would make it a bit gaudier by slightly opening it up and adding a LAB color enhancement using the curve tool ... but then ..

I'm amazed the The South Riding is ahead of California in Spring flowers, Pete. The host of golden daffodils made me read Wordsworth's poem again. I don't know about dancing among them, though. Too many people on drugs around here. I don't want to be collected in a net. Rich

I loaded the pictures backward. This should be the last. Almost home on a main street in Eureka while commuters were driving home home from work like maniacs, I saw this huge rhododendron in bloom. I risked my bum getting this because the rhody was on the curb and facing the traffic. I stuck it out there anyway.

I've seen a few hawks in the last few months but not in the usual places.

I haven't seen a single pelican in months. I miss them most of all. Rich

Welcome Todd!

Those are very nice results from the E-30 and the Sigma Bigma! Not many otters around my parts. It has been a long time since I have seen anyone post images using that lens here, a very long time! Colin Baxter I think may have been the last using that lens that post here.

I still have six of the lenses you have listed in your gear, but the 70 - 300 gave up the ghost. Also an E-1 and an E-3. Not many post images here with the old Olympus cameras anymore but several people still have them. Please not that you are welcome to post images from any camera here, including digitized film. I have the old OM-1 and OM-2 bodies but they are no longer useable without some tlc.

Andrew
Thanks Andrew. I'm glad I could mix things up a bit and bring a blast from the past.

It's a shame there aren't many original Four Thirds posters here, but understandable. The E-30 is my latest and greatest, but I actually prefer the E-3. I have several, and the 50-200 is a permanent fixture on my all weather hiking camera. Sometimes I'll bring along the EC-14 if it's sunny enough. It's a bit bulky, but I'm young enough to handle it. I never had much luck with the 70-300, probably because I always tended to max out the focal length where it's less than stellar.

Here's a shot of a muskrat I got earlier this year with the E-3/50-200 combo. I like the ice on his nose. I caught him just after he'd popped up through that hole. Haven't seen any sign of him for a while though, I'm guessing an otter or eagle got him.

I agree with you on the grip, no complaints here. Although the E-3 is a bit better with gloves. What was your reasoning for retiring it? Too bulky/heavy or just simply outdated? The mode dial on mine is starting to act up but that seems to be a common issue.

Todd

Very nice heron shots Rich. I'm looking forward to them migrating back to these parts soon. I got within thirty feet of one quite often last year.

I never loved the E-3 Todd. I traded in an eight month old E-510 on the E-3 expecting to get results but I was mistaken. Nothing wrong with the E-3 but it was no better than what I had other than build quality so I should have stuck with the 510. I don't even know if any of the batteries I have for those old cameras will still charge. They aren't worth anything to sell so I just kept them all.

Good to see the muskrat as well. Like you I found the 70 - 300 disappointing at the long end, which is basically where I used it as well. I continued to use the 50 - 200 until about two years ago when I gave in and bought the 40 - 150 f/2.8 to use for youth hockey. It was faster in arenas when extended over the 50 - 200 and may focus slightly faster as well.
