***March 2025 Canon R Photo Sharing Thread*** New month! Come share and enjoy!

Just returned from 3 weeks in Kenya, where I used my new Canon R6m2 and 100-500 lens. Just switched from M43 before i left.

Turns out it was a great combo...perfect zoom range.

Here's a few of the many animals i got to photograph

Nice shots. I really like that combo and the 1.4 TC compliments it.

Those high ISO shots came out great. But why such a fast shutter speed (1/1250) in the Cathedral?

I was wondering if someone would ask. I was shooting outdoors and forgot to adjust when we went in. I could have been slower even outdoors. I had a brain fart.

Adult and baby Great Horned Owls hunkering down in their nest yesterday at Honeymoon Island State park, on the Osprey Trail, right before the storms came through Tampa Bay FL

All shot with R7, RF 100-400mm f5.6-8 lens, Kenko MC5 1.5x teleconverter optics from an EF-mount TC re-mounted into an RF-mount JJC 16mm DG extension tube (so a non-EXIF-reporting TC). Processing in DxO PhotoLab 8, some twigs removed from the baby owl image with Adobe Photoshop

Apparently at least one does. Sitting in a tree in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville KY. Keeping watch over Section 13.

More bees! The violet wood sorrels will die off soon, so I got some more shots. Quite happy with many of these! It was windy and I barely had a single second on any of them - had to shoot with LCD that I could barely see, not get too close and blow the MFD, and fire once I saw autofocus engage (pre-capture helped with reaction time as well as they would be flying away by the time all those assessments could register visually/mentally).

I have been using a custom R5II AF mode - manual, +1 on both of the 2 settings. Seems to work well overall considering animal mode isn't really trained on bugs as far as I know.

Settings: 1/1000 or faster is needed to get sharp 1x+ magnification shots - bees move very quickly. f/7.1 or thereabouts is best to get a reasonable DOF. The ISO is in the 1000-3000 range, which is about as high as I'd like without losing too much detail. Overall these seem pretty optimal given the variable lighting constraint outdoors. I think the results are quite good.

Anyways, as before these are with the R5II + RF 100 macro.

Here's some spring flowers I took yesterday hand-held. This was focus bracketed and stacked in the camera.

Okay, gonna catch up on my photos here.

Got some nice wisteria shots from a small bloom we had. These are between my back fence and shed, so had to be a bit creative on the framing.

My wife expressed interest in upwards-facing shots with the sky in them for floral pictures. I managed to get a decent workflow going for these ones (which I also used to re-do the roses from the first post in this thread). When the sky is present, I find that the color temperature is far too warm (DPP4 and DxO pretty much match, so it's not DxO-specific), and then generally the exposure needs boosting on the flower, de-boosting highlights is needed, and some tone curve wizardry is needed to get the contrast desired in the brightness range of the flower (and further deboosting sky if needed).

I've been playing with tone curves a lot the last few months after getting DxO - I feel like this is a pretty good result on these wisteria shots.

R5II, I think mostly with 70-200Z, some may be RF 100 macro.
