With the small primes now being weathersealed, my wife is thinking about wether or not she might be inclined to purchase either the 17mm f1.8 or the 20mm f1.4.

Sunstars are important to her, however, and I really struggle to find sample images from either of those two lenses showing sunstars. Hence, I'm hoping for your input. :)

She does have the 17mm f1.2 already, which does produce spectacular sunstars (and is a spectacular lens in general), but it is large and heavy. The right tool for a specific job, but not one to carry along "just in case".

I don't have a good example of sunstar with the 17/1.8 but I do have some with the 20/1.4.

I find it pretty good at sunstars at F11. Obviously well into diffraction here but I like the effect.

The 20/1.4 fits me better than the 17/1.8 ever did. Currently having a ball with the OM-3 + 20/1.4!

You can find examples of the original 17mm.

And the 20mmF1.4.

When I get 17mm F1.7II on March 17th, I can post comparisons with my 20mm F1.4

In my experience, 20mm gets pretty nice sun stars. Not quite as nice as 17mm f1.2 pro I used to have, but better than most other m43 lenses.

Thanks a lot to both of you! Greatly appreciated!

The 20mm 1.4 doesn‘t look too bad indeed, although it‘s still a bit larger than would be desired. The compact 17mm 1.8 would be much preferred.

@AlmostDoctor: If you could provide some comparison shots between the 20mm 1.4 and the new 17mm 1.8 II it would be really great! :)

If your wife likes sunstars, she must buy Nisi 9mm F/2.8.
It creates very nice sunstars starting with F/2.8.
It is also very rezistant to flare.
In my opinion this is one of the best landscape lenses wich you can find for MFT mount.

Some pictures done with Nisi 9mm F/2.8 :

Lucky you! That 20/1.4 is on my radar too, but I hardly ever see it used...
