Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

Well that is disappointing to learn Rich. I have been mulling buying the Z8 and 24 - 120 but I don't want either of those issues! I don't think I would have caught the lens! I am having relatively serious issues with my right shoulder. Feels like when I tore the rotator cuff on it a couple of decades ago. Painful and leaves me unconfident in the use of the arm for certain situations. It could be a drug side effect but the only way to find out is to discontinue the drug and see if it clears up. Muscle and joint pains are listed as a common side effect of the new drug, along with a litany of other possible effects. The Z8 is relatively heavy compared to the OM1. I would have to get a Sony A1 to get a faster readout body from them and they are about nine large here so I did not really consider it as a contender for the money.

Will Nikon fix your camera for free? They should but ....

A nice bit of flare on those lights Dicky to enhance your image! I am glad we don't have to worry about things like that. Earthquakes are also very rare around these parts. There was a small one I felt that shook the table and floor around 35 years ago but other than that I don't recall any others. We have had tornadoes in the past 30 years or so a few times within 30 km of where we live but never had them before then that I recall. Hurricanes are also extremely rare in this area.

I think we have it pretty lucky in the weather department, as long as you don't mind some snow and cold in the winter and humid summers.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder, Andrew. I'm having problems with my left. I can't get a cup of coffee to my mouth with it. I hope ibuprofen won't damage my kidneys because I'm taking a lot of it.

As long as I can get the lens to lock by cycling the button as I rotate the lens over the pin I'm not going to send it to Nikon to be re-repaired. I'm working to reduce any stress because the myasthenia gravis has got worse for my eyes and for speech and worst of all swallowing. I choke on my saliva now. Just a bit of stress makes it worse instantly. So, I don't want to deal with Nikon when I'm disappointed with then and pi$$ed. I just put a minute amount of lubricant on the pin and now it is seating if I slowly rotate the lens over the pin. It hasn't unlocked by itself and I now check the lens constantly to make sure it is locked and check the strap lug constantly to see if it is loose. Perhaps I will buy a cane for the Z8. Or, I once saw a Pez dispencer with a shoe mount on bottom to put in on the camera. It still makes nice landscapes as long as I help it keep its act together. I have become a care giver to a camera.

What is your concern with faster readout? Maybe I'm mistaking what you mean. Rich

Interesting effect. Looks like the sun shining through blue glass with frozen snow on it.

Almost right. Blue is the sky. Thanks.

There was a thunderstorm about 100k to the north with lots of cloud between us and it. I thought it would be a good test of live composite. I used the 9mm F1.7 to get a good coverage of the sky. But then got everything wrong.

The focus point should have been one of the building in the distance in stead of the middle of the sky - hence the poor focus.

The image should have been centered on the area of the sky where the lightning was, not the middle of the sky. So the cropped image was from the lower left corner which emphasized the distortion of the 9mm.

The lightning was mostly hidden behind the clouds in the foreground.

I didn't make sure the tripod was level.

I should have opened the window to avoid all the reflections.

But apart from that.....
