Has anyone gone to the 16pro from the 14pro? I am curious to know if it is worth the upgrade. My 14pro takes excellent images and I can get really good 11x14 prints but the macros can be very challenging and this is really my only issue.

I’ve owned every Pro (or Pro Max, depending on the year) since the 13 Pro. I don’t shoot many macros, but the 16 Pro has an updated ultrawide camera, which now delivers a 48 MP file instead of the 12 MP files from the 14 Pro. And since iPhone macro images are provided by the ultrawide camera, I would think the 16 Pro would exceed the 14 Pro’s capabilities in that regard.

There's also the new camera control, which gets mixed reviews. I like it for a few functions, but not all.

As has been mentioned, the ultra wide on the 17pro now has a 48MP sensor, but the sensor is no bigger than ultra wide sensor on previous iPhone models. And macro mode by default still captures at 12MP. My sense is the 16pro macro mode represents an incremental, rather than any significant, improvement over prior models.

I have been messing around with the macro mode for the last couple of days on my 16pro. If interested, I have posted a gallery of full size images from this session. If I have the permissions on the gallery correct, you should be able to download full size jpegs, these should give some indication if the 16pro would represent any improvement over what you are currently seeing for macro.

Thanks for the info. I think I will wait to see what the 17pro has to offer. It will need to be a big upgrade at the prices they are asking.

another option is to get a macro lens mounted on the main lens. There a various suppliers and some people are real happy with the results

I am in your camp. I have a iPhone 14 Pro Max. I don’t find the 15 or 16 to be compelling enough to “upgrade”. Since Apple likes to dribble out new features very slowly, Maybe the 17 or 18 or 19.

I also agree. My upgrade path has been the 8 plus to 11 Pro Max to 15 Pro Max. Probably the 18 will be the next iPhone I take a serious look at. 18 or 19 for the next upgrade.

If the 48mm-e "camera" ever gets it's own 48mp sensor, that might be enticing. But that seems very doubtful to me.

The changes now are pretty incremental, at least for my usage.
