A1 II "second wave?"

If things continue as they are - no reliable delivery data and no news on what could be the cause of this ongoing delay which approaches 2 months now - here is a potential scenario:

The A1 II will see a re-release in late 2025 as candidate for "camera of the year 2026"

Sarcasm mode off.
Cheers,
Ralf

"A source told me that Sony was able to increase production and the shortage should be resolved soon."

Most camera mfg rearrange their assembly line for big batch production. If Sony's cycle is every 2-months then, they increased production rate, then it should be soon that more units are available.

In the mean time it is best to ask around at small shops. I think they've been getting their shipment units delayed from the mid/large retailers. They are slow or don't often update online and some don't even have websites.

@ Waku Waku: Thanks for looking for news. But unfortunately:
A rumor site the only current source stating anything about the issue? Thanks but no, thanks. In the meantime, 2 real sources:
And still no official Sony statement available on A 1 M II status?
S(N)AFU at Sony customer comms unless something more official surfaces.....

Retailers don't actually know the lead time. Just an conservative guess based on the amount of pre-orders they have and/or rate of units they've been receiving. Hence why everyone is giving different numbers. (e.g my local store gives 4-6 week wait time)

If they gave a statement with timeframe that turns out wrong people would be angry. Sony kinda knows roughly when but realistically doesn't know either to give concrete date. Supply chain has many unknown vector points. Last statement they said was this .

1. Lead time I see as the time needed to wait for availability to an end-user.

2. Stores very likely use lead times to compete - the earlier available, then more orders
my local store gives 4-6 week wait time
Since how long now do they state that status? How about counting from the day they had to state their "lead time" instead of advertizing "in store" when thy ran out?
So check how many REAL weeks they have stated 4-6 weeks already and then see point 2. above. My fav store "FOTOPROFI" states this since January, If that had been realistic, stock should have arrived mid February latest. Not so, 6-8 weeks instead today.
If they gave a statement with timeframe that turns out wrong people would be angry.
The two examples i shared above are two of the bigger distributors in Germany. A cam store network like Calumet that has to tell potential customers that the cam they ask for is 3 - 6 months away, I would guess it does so to move these customers to something available now to use their "anger" as motivation. Potentially detrimental to potential Sony sales anyway, the whole situation.
Last statement they said was this .
Thank you so much for providing supportive evidence that Sony Comms isn't up to snuff here: A statement from November 2024 - approaching 4 months of "validity"? Sad.

Enough said.
Cheers,
Ralf

I followed Your reference to sony japan to their A1 II product page where they aptly state (translated to english)

”The second act of Unrivaled Lonely”. Many of us are feeling lonely rather than fulfilled.😪😥

I also followed the sony Japan site through a purchase of the A1 Ii and it states 3 months delivery time.

For awhile I stalked dozens of retailers availability and kept in contact with several of them. They all gave different estimates. As dynamics change they give update estimates. As for my local store, last I talked to them was Feb-13, they said 4-6w.

10 days ago I found a smaller shop with an A1II available so I've stopped monitoring and keeping in contact. But, regarding lead time, the only consensus is there will be a wait, how long is up in the air.

Yes. That announcement was 93 days ago and shortly after pre-order window opened.

Lets assume execs scrambled immediately to respond by reshuffling logistics. However, realistically supply chain has many variables and can't be on the dime changed.

If they took 1-month to confirm parts/order changes, word of Sony's batch production cycle is 2-month true then the SAR rumor of production increase resolution means end users should see backlog clearing in the next month or so.

As consumers we want that nice AMZN prime 2-day delivery. But, they are able to do that by amassing large inventory via Just-In-Case (JIC) system. Not feasible for low volume products. Kinda like trying to build a house yourself or ordering parts overseas. There is a wait time. Lots of variables outside of your control. You have a very wide range of staggered delivery times for each part so the final competition time frame is up in the air.

TBF, Sony isn't alone, other camera mfg has also had their own share of long wait times. ( E.g Canon R5ii 6-month or longer wait. Fuji X100VI released Feb-2024 still on backorder. Same with Nikon Z9.) Just the nature of the business now. Undersupply is less risky than oversupply.
Enough said.

Just got mine this past Thursday from CameraCanada in Canada....duh...LOL

I had one assigned to me out of the initial Dec 20th batch and I declined as I wasn't going to be home to receive over Xmas.

I thought I would get one early Jan but it has taken till the last week of February for my store (one of the largest Sony dealers in Canada) to get more A1II. And my dealer told me he only got a single copy in this 2nd batch!!! The one he sold to me.

That is crazy.

Unfortunately, today, the Camera Canada price increased 25%!!! The Tariff is a bummer.

Are you being serious? It hasn't changed when I checked. The cameras come from Japan, not the US.

If it's shipped to a US buyer is a tariff applied?

I just checked and it is at the exact same price. Still at a discount to the US price.

If imported from Canada, it'll have a tariff, if imported from Japan, it will not. There are huge concerns up in Detroit, because some parts go back and forth across the border as part of assembling a car.

As will all things Trump, details will arrive later.

That's the idea. However, you might try calling a Canadian retailer to see what they say.

Because Sony isn’t giving the stores any info either. So everything is a guess. Sony where are you?

Now, isn't that just "Tariffic".... or rather "Tariffying"...

The situation appears to get worse
  • FOTOPROFI GERMANY - now 3 - 4 months - = 16 weeks, lead time doubled
  • Calumet GERMANY - still 3 - 6 months
  • FOTO KOCH GERMANY "Der Artikel ist aktuell nicht lieferbar. Eine genaue Lieferzeit kann man uns nicht nennen. "
  • Smaller shops have stopped advertizing the cam
No signs of a wave. This is a drought and potential buyers are left deserted.
Pun intended.
