Do you think Nikon Zf will get a mark II?

I recently became very interested in the Zf, tried one in store, and now have one on the way. I think I will love it, but as with any camera, will need a week or two to gel with it and see if it’s a keeper. It will also be my first Nikon, and my first full frame camera.

I’ve seen lots of praise for it, but also lots of criticism, which made me wonder if Nikon might produce a mark II someday to address some of the critiques, as well as offer new features, new sensor etc.

I realize no one actually knows, outside of Nikon themselves, but if you had to guess, do you think the Zf will get new versions? Or do you think it will it just be a one off like the ill fated Df before it?

I wonder how well it has sold. Seems to have a buzz about it.

The critiques are about the Zf retro controls, and the reduced set of control buttons.

I see Zf threads where they are trying to do some AF method, or on-the-fly mode switch, Which is quite simple on a Z8 or a Z6 iii, but is more difficult on a Zf.

The camera looks great, and works very well for many photo situations, but isn't the best choice for fast action scenarios.

I'm not sure what refinements a Zf ii would have, and still keep it's classic look.

Hmm, maybe a 45 mp sensor would be the main feature?

I have a Nikon Df and that model stayed in production for a long time, until the Zf came and replaced it. So I don't think you'll get the Mark II anytime soon. The Zf is more of a one off camera. I still enjoy using my Nikon Df.

I can't see them doing a Mark II until they release another processor generation or two. If they do make a Mark II, I think it would be to bring new video features to it (thus the new processor), to bring new AF features to it (thus the new processor), and potentially to put in a 45mp sensor. Considering the Df never received an update, it's possible the Zf never will either, but I would think the Zf sold much better than the Df did, so there's probably a better chance of a Mark II than with the Df.

I’ve seen lots of praise...
You get my praise as well as it is my first FF camera...
.... and I used it as DX for 11 months.

I really don't care for a Mark II version,
but I DO HOPE to see a Z50II-like FIRMWARE UPGRADE.

With her in my hand,
I'm back in my young time with a Nikon Film Camera before the F4

( I dreamed one day, to own semi-pro gears. I'm happy now )

Firmware v2.0 is nearly here. It’s been checked out by visitors to a recent show (CP+). It has:

- Nikon Imaging Cloud and the recipes that come with it

- AF Cycle

- Reset zoom in MF by touching the shutter button

- Thicker border options around the focus box

There are maybe more added functions, we’ll have to wait for the official release. Itks certainly not a Zf ii but these are useful updates.

No unless i saw many small silver ring lenses. Not plastic.

Be prepared to shocked by two things: the exceptional low-light capability. For example 1/10th in very dim light handheld producing in focus high quality images. Second, the beautiful images that come out of the camera under nearly all shooting conditions.

Much of the criticism came early on, some from U-tubers that admitted they did not even own the camera. Much of that has died down.

There may be a new version, but if not I will be fine with the occasional firmware update - that is the benefit of the Z system. Firmware that adds meaningful improvement.

Let’s hope that they continue to iterate the ZF. For me, I would definitely buy if they roll out a 45MP version (or more) and would love to see some retro lenses to go with, like the sigma contemporary primes or better yet the Hasselblad V primes that have a manual focus clutch and markings, aperture ring is a must.

They still need to update other bodies in the lineup.

Probably unlikely to happen but id love to see a ZF with the 45mp Sensor from the Z7/Z7ii. Would be a easy Camera for Nikon to put out with minimal R&D required.

I have owned my Zf for just over 6 weeks now and I love it.
I don't have a grip (It needs one)but I have found a wrist strap works well for me.
It has turned into an expensive purchase as I have also bought the Neewer M->E adapter so I can have manual focus confirmation on my vintage glass ( 7 x various M42 and K mount lenses originally)
I have also bought the Megadap adapter which allows me to use my Zeiss Batis lenses
I also bought the TTartisan M->Z adapter so I can use my Zeiss 35/1.4
The Megadap was probably a waste of money as Im having so much fun adapting lenses and using the superb MF assists that I have hardly used my Batis lenses.
You will find me scouring Flickr researching old lenses to try and find on ebay that I like the look of.
I then of course have to go out and try the lenses.
My 3 current faves are

Zeiss Jena Biotar 58/2 - I have version 2 with the 18 aperture blades
Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50/1.8
Konica Hexanon 58/1.7

In 6 weeks I have taken more photo's than I did in the last 6 months with my Sony. For me the Zf has brought the fun back into photography in a way I wasn't expecting.
I look forward to going out and taking photos of anything now as the process on the Zf is so enjoyable.
With all the adapters I have there are now so many old lenses I want to try :)

This camera is a keeper, though if they bring out a 40MP version I would be all over that in a heartbeat.

Probably not, at least any time soon. It's not really marketed as a sports/wildlife/video camera and 24MP still seems to be the sweet spot. Since we currently have the Z7 II, Z8 and z9, I don't see much of a point for them to update the Zf at all really. But other than that, I'm personally OK with it. Love the image quality and it's a nice balance between a Z6 II and Z6 III in terms of IQ and performance (and it doesn't require CFE cards...)

The only two changes I could see coming would be maybe be a 30MP FF sensor, and a UHS-II micro SD card slot (so both slots would be UHS-II) and the higher res 5.76M EVF. But I really don't think they are going to make any serious changes to it. It's a retro camera. If you need more resolution or speed you have other options. The bigger question should be what will happen with the Z8 (what will a Z8 II be like?)

The one feature i would like to see Nikon di (either in the current gen or a future Zf gen) would be software user modes (kind of like how Fuji does it, where you can have profiles you can select in the camera with different sets of settings).

I guess it won't see an EXPEED8 refresh but maybe an EXPEED9 refresh in about another 6 or 7 years when they need to jolt the line up a bit.

So far, Nikon has never updated the Df, or the Zfc. It is hard see an update to the Zf any time soon.

I happen to practice exactly the types of photography the Zf is good for, so I'm pretty happy with mine. The one thing I would add if I could would be another function button or two.

To be fair as much as I love it the Df wasnt a massive sucess and Nikon stopped updating DSLR's generally within a few years.

The ZF and ZFc on the other hand do seem to be significant sucesses, you could argue their nature means they maybe don't need to be absolutely cutting edge I spose so I'm not sure you'll get an update in the near future but I could definitely see one in a couple of years.

I'd welcome a reduction in size but especially weight, as the camera is quite heavy and difficult to hold because of that.

Get rid of all video specs, heat sink and IBIS. Just stills. Make it smaller and thinner to be close to my FM2 is. The dimensions of the Zfc would be a great start and should be doable. Keep the amazing 24 MP sensor and AF and many of us should be fine. And make it cheaper with these simplifications btw.

Better picture profiles like Fuji, with grain settings and all, would also attract a lot of the Fuji fans.

Nikon Zf (unlike Zfc and Df) considered sales success. NIkon FA 1983-1988 or Nikon F3 HP 1980-2001 by Giorgetto Guigiaro probably the best-designed 35mm Nikon cameras. Nikkormat EL 1972 favoured by collectors. The worst: Nikon EM.
