Canon R10

Speaking of EF-RF adaptors, is the Canon adaptor superior to third party adaptors or is there no quality difference whatsoever?

I'm thinking of buying the 55-250 EF lens.

no difference but some of the Canon adapters have a customizable "control ring" where you can control shutter, aperture, etc. I use the cheaper adapter

Thanks, any recommended third party adapters?

The adapter is just a metal ring with contacts, they're all essentially the same. Probably all from the same Chinese manufacturer

Google "Canon R adapter amazon" ~ $50

Is there any DSLR's at a similar price point to the R10 that are outright better cameras?

"better? ? - I don't know. They don't make DSLR's anymore.

The advantages of mirrorless cameras is overwhelming

Any ideas on some essential lenses, be that EF or RF. My main priorities are portraits, birds/wildlife and astrophotography.

Portrait - Sigma 56f1.4 - great lens, I have it on Sony mount

Wildlife - when I considered wildlife setup, I aimed for RF 100-500, but if you are OK with size, RF 200-800. Or budget RF 100-400.

Astro - no idea

depends on the budget - wildlife - older Canon EF 100-400 works great but RF 100-500 is better

I use the EF 70-200 2.8 for portraits

Thanks everyone. I have seen a Sony A7 iii for a similar price to what I bought my R10.

Is this a much better camera? Is the autofocus on par and just as importantly, are there are a lot more lens options for this model?

The A7III is a better camera than the EOS R10 on the subject of image quality, but... that's about it. It has features like IBIS which the R10 doesn't, but this doesn't matter too much for wildlife as you rely mostly on your lens IS anyway.

When it comes to autofocus, burst rates and reach, the R10 will be a much better camera than the A7III, and if your goal is wildlife, then I don't think going from the R10 to an A7III makes any sense at all, despite the A7III having better image quality and more features.
