Light capable laptop for DXO use

New info. Dad is saying he’s more likely to just use jpgs and a few slow edits won’t kill him.

Refocusing on 14” screen 1 TB / 16 GB ram light machines.
I am 79, close to your Dad's age, and had a similar experience with an M1 airbook. I simply cannot get used to the Apple system. Also I have several windows-only programs I still use, so....
  • Set up your photo files on an external SSD formatted to exFat for compatibility between Apple and Windows.
  • buy this laptop - refurbed, great screen, fast enough for normal editing:

  • use the Windows laptop 99% of the time, and the Mac for AI treatment. At least that happens with my mix of shots.
Or, just go with the refurbed Win machine. The reference above is a good fit.

And he's into a new plan now...

He wants a TV and a computer but has only a computer today. He uses his laptop as his computer but wants to able to sit back farther and see it. So now we are talking about a desktop and a monitor. He doesn't need a laptop - the reason for light weight I found out was to be able to move it off the shelf below the tv to the kitchen table. So why not use a monitor and keyboard and a desktop I asked - you can get a 27" screen and not have to have a TV. (He only uses the computer streaming apps now...)

That's where we are...

He has discussed all in one and desktops. But the two problems with all in one systems - limited choices of monitor specs, and difficulty mounting it to a VESA mount.

Sorry for the rollercoaster - now you know what it can be like... lol
The link I gave you earlier - the laptop has an HDMI port so you could hook it up to most current TVs or monitors.

He bought a tv! lol. I’m so confused. 32”. We shall see what else follows.

Someone mentioned Costco was selling a 5K Ultra Wide 21:9 monitor for $300. I was going to get one until I read the reviews. It's a smart monitor and you better not lose the remote control. Took a while to boot and like you to sign in so it can update its firmware. IIRC, similar with the last smart TV I purchased - it wants internet connection to update streaming apps.
