Zfc+AF-P 70-300 +Kenko Pro 300 1.4X

Congrats - I gave up trying to find a TC that would work between my z6 + ftz and the afp 70-300 E ie the FX version

The Pro 300 DG 1.4 didn’t work at all- lens error

The Pro 300 DGX 1.4 did work in MF but switching to any AF mode and it hunted and missed.

strange - both converters work fine on that lens mounted on my D500 but the DG doesn’t hunt at all

Anyway, I have now switched to the sigma 100-400 sometimes with the sigma tc1401 so not used the afp in some time.

Maybe it’s body specific ? Eg not Z6 but on ZFc ?

The PRO DGX works perfectly with both Z30 and Zf.

( no Z6 to test it )

Good to know

Would be mildly interesting to see if others with a z6 have the same issue with the dgx - could be fault with my camera/lens or tc - these things happen of course.

Anyway - of academic interest personally - I have no intention of switching back from the sigma to that afp fx - probably will sell it.

I have been wondering for a while if there's any TC to get some more focal distance out of my AF-P 70-300E on my Z6III so I don't have to bring that beast of a 150-500mm with me every time I need some reach, and this thread pointed me to the Kenco. So I took a chance and bought one last week at MPB (the 1.4x DG version).
It arrived yesterday, and it works like a charm! AF is snappy as ever, lens is sharp as ever. The only thing it doesn't do however is focus peaking when focusing manually. But hey, if that's all that's flawed, I'll sign for it! Which I did ;-)

Next step is to test if the Kenco will work with the Sigma 150-500mm :-P

Which full model name is that please?

As I posted, the Pro 300 DG 1.4x won’t work at all with my at all 70-300E on my Z6 f/w 2.x to 3.5 currently. The pro 300 DGX 1.4x will work in MF but hunts and misses in AF.

I see there are other Kenko models labelled DG

It may well be that compatibility is Z camera specific in the Z world. Have encountered similar probs with a Tamron macro

It's the Kenco N-AF 1.4X TELEPLUS PRO 300 DGX, according to the print on the converter body.

Yeah, so I just noticed it's a DGX model, not the DG. Although when I ordered it at MPB it seemed like a DG model.

But hey, it works, so it's fine by me ;-)

OK - thanks and glad it works for you. It is that DGX that hunts in AF on my way Z6.

Cheers

It’s fine on my Z7ii and Zf. Your problem isn’t low light/contrast and f8 related is it?

I thought I’d update the thread to say I returned the non-working HD Plus DGX and finally I have a Pro 300 DGX and this works very well.
Cool, glad you got one that works. It would be really nice, if Kenko-Tokina made this in Z mount. Then we could use a converter with lenses like the 50-250 or the Tamron 70-300

No- tried it in various situations and consistently find that the DGX hunts and misses on the Z6. As I said - of academic interest now since I use the sigma 100-400. The AF is on the slow side but it works and in good light even with a tc1401

Test of Nikon Z 50II + z400mm f/4.5 + 2x teleconverter, for a 1200 equvilent field at 100yds. F9 aperture, street sign approx.100yds. Hand held out the bathroom window.

Before re visiting this post, I just checked it on my Z50II (sold the Zfc), and does indeed work perfectly fine.
