I'm installing my photo software on a new PC. I want to install DxO Optics Pro 11 and have my licence code but DxO have pulled the download link from their site and were dismissive of my request telling me to buy a new version. I see no reason for this.

Does anyone have a link to the offline installer for DxO Optics Pro 11? Note their dire support if you are thinking of buying their products.

Sounds like you are determined not to buy their products?

I wonder how many vendors provide free downloads of seven-year-old products?

I have no idea if this is a trustworthy site:

I decided to install the previous version 10 for which I had archived the installation file. This was not a paid for version but DxO do not provide a download link for older bought product. There is no reason for this apart from a cynical attempt to force people to upgrade which failed in my case.

Presumably your version 11 was also a free copy?

Update

I installed the previous version 10 from an archive I had kept only to find it would not activate. I contacted DXO support who advised they unable to activate older software. What a waste of money. Beware if you want to reinstall older DXO products on a new PC!

That's a long-unsupported version, first released eight years ago, so it lacks all the modern features that people care about today. It probably won't run or even install on modern operating systems, and won't support cameras and lenses released after about 2014. DxO doesn't want people complaining that such an old product doesn't work properly on a new PC, or expecting support. Even worse, it doesn't want them complaining about missing features that were added in the following years.

I'm of two minds on this. On one hand, I don't expect support forever. PhotoLab 10 was the current product from Oct 30, 2014 (DPR article) until June 1, 2016 (another DPR article), so depending on when purchased, it's somewhere between 6.9 and 8.5 years old--and you got it for free, right?

On the other hand, rather than blocking activation of older software, which in many cases was lawfully purchased / licensed, it seems reasonable that, if they can't bother to maintain the activation server, then they should either give all licensees reasonable notice (like email everyone on the list) and a reasonable time period (a few months) to download an 'unlocked' version, or else they should program their servers to simply grant all requests to activate the too-old software.

But my opinions and musings won't get you far. I'd take this up on the DxO support forums (https://feedback.dxo.com/).

I encountered the same situation when I tried to install FilmPack 3, which DxO says will work with my PhotoLab 5:

Misleading to say the least.

That's ridiculous. DxO just wants people to pay, whether they care about new features and support or not. Plenty of companies other than DxO permit the use of very old versions of software for years and years, as long as there are no hardware or OS incompatibilities. For example, I've been installing and running a perpetual license of Photoshop CS3 on a series of Windows computers since 2007. Also a version of Sony's Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum from 2011. One tool I use often has been unchanged since 1999. That one doesn't require online activation, but I mention it as an example of software that's been working fine for over two decades.

I accept it won't work with a new camera profile but I see no reason for it not to activate with the current features. I'm still using Office 2010 and other old software which activates fine. This is just a cynical ploy by DXO to force people to upgrade.

I posted on the DXO forum but I bet the moderator won't post it if they are shy of criticism

Exactly. My oldest program is MS Money 2005 which works fine in Windows 11 and I have other photo software far older than Optics Pro. DXO is now on my don't buy list.

It seems like it already was, anyway?

Assuming you bought / paid for Optics Pro 11 back in the day, then IMO you should post at the DxO forum something along the lines of: 'In 2015 I bought Optics Pro 11. That was supposed to be a perpetual license. I want to install it on my new computer. It won't activate. Reportedly DxO has taken down the activation server for this product. So is DxO going to provide me with a way to activate on my new computer the product for which I paid DxO, or is DxO going to refund the money I paid for that product? In other words, DxO has effectively taken back the product I paid for. Is DxO going to return to me the product I bought, or the money I paid? Thanks!'

I posted something similar to the DXO Forum 12 hours ago. The post hasn't appeared yet since all posts are subject to moderation. I bet they don't want to accept any criticism and won't post it.

I'm also going to contact their CEO Jérôme Ménière (see address below). Does anyone know his email address?
