Personally, I think that with new weather sealed prime(s) it actually may be a nice combination. I’ll just wait more info.

Within two weeks we'll know more, meantime I ignore gossip from a guy gathering clicks.

Assuming that is true, and it sounds quite probable, the proponents for a higher resolution sensor will be disappointed! Me, I am just happy that OMDS finally made a camera of its own.

Same here seeing new camera by OMDS. I think the new weather sealed prime lenses are a very nice touch. I might go for 25mm as i don't have that FL prime even though I actually don't really need it :-). Hope there will be promotion here and there to help my decision quicker!

Maybe the mode button will have a new "Era" mode. You set the decade, which the camera JPEGs will look like. Ohh... lets see, 60's or the 80's today? It would seem appropriate for a vintage camera ;-).

The specs are what I expected. I am not interested in the OM3 anyway. I guess the new tech will be for a true flagship camera (then will trickle down to lower-end models).

The new lenses are not new, but that's not bad since I've long asked for a redesign for these lenses. If key small primes are re-released as weather-sealed then it increases the odds for a weather-sealed Pen and EM10-type camera bodies. OMS pushes its outdoor angle, but the low-end of its products doesn't quite match it.

IBIS and some weather-sealing on base models help differentiate OMS from other camera manufacturers who usually omit both features.

P.S. I skipped the original Olympus 100-400 because it didn't have sync IS.

It will be a nice camera but not competitive at that price and my expectation is around 2000€.
On the OM-1 II, the price can be justified by the specs for wildlife (pro-cap, fast sensor readout, fps, etc). Most competitors with same speed will be more expensive.

On the segment this one will fit, those specs are not so relevant and it’ doesn’t seem to be that compact for a M4/3 camera. The competitors have smaller options, with bigger and higher resolution sensors and sell for less, so I’m not expecting many people to pay the price they will ask for it. 1500€ would be more reasonable.

Also, they took too long to come up with this retro style camera so most possible users already jumped to Fuji or Nikon most recently. Let’s hope it doesn’t become a financial failure as the PenF apparently was.

If they start with 2000€ it won’t take long until good cash back offers are available, like the 150-600 which has an obvious high RRP.

OM-3 specs:
Groan.... even my OM-5 uses the same sensor/TruePic as the E-M1 III. I suspect this is BS

Probably not exactly an Pen-F replacement because of the hump in the middle. Not a bad thing though! I already have an OM-1 so no big deal.

Again, if I don't already have the 17 F1.2, the newly updated 17 F1.8 would be a great lens to have.

I must have misread the posted spec, I was sure it originally said the E-M1 II.

I know I am not quite the targeted consumer for this camera (camera retro styling leaves me a bit cold), but 2000 bucks is a lot for a camera that has no real new electronics inside (if the leaks are to be believed). I get OMS wants to be profitable but aren't they risking flying to close to the sun?

I can differ to OMS marketing for setting what they think is the right price, but I remember the Pen F being too pricey too (at the time, 2016), and it didn't sell enough to warrant a successor since then. A camera like the OM3 designed to woo current m43 users and new users nostalgic of OM system of old, I think selling the camera at a lower price point to get a few more sales and on the hope of recouping on lens and accessory sales would be more prudent of a strategy.

You keep accidentally changing the model discussed 😂. First it was TG-7, then E-M1 III, and now E-M1 II .

OM-1 and I believe OM-5 have a Quad Bayer sensor, unlike previous models with regular Bayer sensors. It is possible that the new camera also has the new Quad Bayer sensor.

Not in the introductory stage. There will be plenty of buyers at the $2K level, so let them serve those first.

Yup, you are too fast for me. I thought I caught that TG7 boo-boo before anyone noticed. Didn’t the original post on the spec reference the E-M1 II, or is my age getting the better of me?

What would you think would be this “lower price” point?

Happy middle between the OM5 and the OM1 mark II? Would fit the name OM3. :)
