Anywhere in the UK doing monochrome conversions?

Hi guys

I shoot a lot of B&W. I'm also thinking of upgrading from my Z6 at the start of next year. Rather than sell it on, I was curious about getting the sensor converted to B&W. Does anyone know anywhere in the UK that offers this service?

Thanks

Chris

Is that even possible? IR conversions remove the cover glass from the sensor and replace it with the filter glass but is it possible to remove the Bayer layer?

I too wonder whether a monochrome conversion means a new, or at least a modified, sensor. Who is going to supply that sensor and make all the software/firmware modifications that are required?

Seems to be a lot easier to capture in color and then convert to monochrome in post processing.

i was looking to convert my D200 to infrared... check sites below, perhaps they do B&W conversion too (if this is possible) or know where to go to do this type of conversion.

Yes, it's possible. There's a guy who does it for Pentax cameras and I think he's done it for a D810 as well.

It's quite invasive, I think you essentially use some chemical compound to scrape the bayer layer off.

Have you thought about just using one of the Picture Controls already available - or creating your own Custom Picture Controls? I'd probably keep the hardware the same and use software rather than converting the camera. B&W involves interpretation of the data collected - and there is tremendous latitude in the Picture Controls to make specific types of processing decisions and load them into your camera. Nikon's new Imaging Cloud is intended to head down that path more extensively with downloadable profiles created by others.

When you shoot in B&W, do you use the HSL sliders to adjust the tonal response of the colours in the original scene, for example to darken a sky or create separation? If so, you would lose this ability with a purely B&W file out of camera.
