Nikon D2H

your observations of actual usage w the d2h are so disappointing. the high iso's are exactly why i have the camera on order. that was number one with me, and now if that's a bust, then my entire reason for upgrading has been grealy diminished. can you post some shots that illustrate the noise that you are referring to and also the iso's that were employed in the shoot. thanks again for your comments. ron.

Hi Ron,

I wouldn't worry about high ISO-settings if you're shooting outside. For sports photography, I'm sure the D2H performs magnificently. Only when you have dark, even backgrounds - as I have all the time in concert halls - the noise is a problem.

I cant' post any comparisons between D2H and D1H. I used the D2H intensively one night (approx. 540 shots) during a concert, and afterwards made a few test shots of a grey background, all at 1000 iso. The results were so disappointing that I even didn't bother to make extra comparison shots. Not only did I get much MORE noise than with my two D1H's (whith which I did some 12.000 of comparable shots), but the noise was streaky in horizontal bands. It reminded me of the results of my 'old' D1, that had exactly the same problem. The D2H just does NOT do the job al low light conditions with dark (coloured) backrounds, so I returned it to the shop (where they were so kind to take it back!). Hope Nikon comes with a 4 MP-camera that has the same next-to-perfect noise characteristics as the D1H. Apparantly, the LBCAST-technology is not a step forward regarding noise...

So, you have thrown away all of these "horribly noisy" images an dyou don't have any comparable D1H images to show? How is it you have taken so many with the D1H but you can't post what you say is so horrible with the D2H along with a good D1H shot? Seems awfully strange to me. Frankly, what I have seen to date from the D2H looks quite good, certainly no worse than my D1H. I also think that one "test" is hardly accurate, could be that camera settings, could be post-process software, who knows.

But without something to compare, I frankly don't believe that things are as bad as you claim.

Actially, if you still have any samples of your noisy D2h images - please do post them. It would help me to know the camera better, and to develop some better noise reduction skills.

Those are serious statements about a camera that you have shot over 400 images, yet not even a single "full-crop" from any of your images.

I can understand that you may not want us to see the content of your images but before posting a serious thread about noise you should at least have the courtesy of providing samples as many before have asked.

If you don't have samples then I ( I'm sure others will too) believe that you either had a bad-sample or just didn't have the camera tweaked prior to shooting in hi-ASA

Since I don't see any samples I'll just assume that were'nt "that-bad" unless you would have really jumped and posted them right away.
