OM-1 mki: excessive focus hunting shooting bugs on white sheet

I'm a very non-techhie almost-point-and-click photographer, so ignore me if this is rubbish, but when my OM5 struggles to focus I find it helps to focus on something a similar distance away, then try again on the intended subject. It's almost as if the camera says 'Oh, that's what you wanted me to do - and there I was looking into infinity!'

Thanks for the comment. I use the constant "modeling" light on one of my godox MF-12s to provide the light to focus; plus there is also the light from my moth light, which emits a variety of spectra.
I was using a 2 light system recently for mothing - a UV bulb and an ordinary white'ish bulb. Both were the compact wrap around flourescents and I was having focusing problems which I assumed was due to the bulb pulsing frequency affecting the C-AF.

As I was only taking record shot snaps I was being serious about the photography side of things (I cursed about that later) , so I didn't examine the issue any further, so can not guarantee it was the cause. But I have noticed in the past when shooting in sports halls that light flicker can cause focusing issues using C-AF. Unfortunately I have now reached the age where I can't even remember what I did yesterday, so can not comment further on how I solved the issue :o(
