I am not the best when it comes to tech, so bear with me. My new computer has a 2 tb drive and I wanted more storage for all my photos, so put in a second 2 tb NVMe drive. I just ran PCmover to transfer all from my old computer to the new. Now, in going into my Photoshop Elements program, it is showing the photos but it is not finding the photos! I think it is because it is looking for them on the D: drive but the photos, apparently, were never put on the D: drive. I am not seeing the D: drive listed anywhere. I am guessing I need to get the system to recognize there is a D; drive and then, maybe copy all the photos that were placed on the C: to the D: and then, hopefully, it will find them?? Any help is appreciated! Glad I still have this old computer up and running!

Is your new NVMe drive the drive D? Can you see the new drive listed in Windows File Explorer?

When I installed a new NVMe drive (using Windows 10) I had to initialise the drive in Control Panel/Drive Management before it was recognised.

Good luck.

I do not see it listed. This is in win 11. How do you initialize?

I'd do it with Disk Management .

It's not difficult. Create a partition, and do a quick format as NTFS.

When you install a new drive in a PC, you will not see it using Windows File Explorer. The only way to see it is to use Windows Disk Management. (Hold down the windows key and tap the "X" key to display a menu. Select Disk Management from the list.)

The new drive will be all "unallocated". You need to initialize and format the new drive in Disk Management. See this video from Puget Systems on Youtube on how to do that.

Then you will be able to see your new drive using Windows Explorer. And you will be able to copy from the C: drive to the D: drive.

Thanks much! I got it to recognize it now! So, now, with Elements not finding the photos because, I think, it is looking for them on the D drive that wasn't there and now there is a D drive I can copy my PHOTO file and then paste into the D drive and hopefully solve that issue??

I assume that you transferred a copy of PSE from the old PC to the new PC using PCmover. If so, then PSE is thinking that it's still on the old PC and it must be looking for the photos on the same drive letter and same folder path that it used on you old PC via its Organizer.

If you don't have a D drive in your old PC, then PSE wouldn't be looking for the photos in a new D drive in your new PC.

Personally, I don't use organizers for PSE or PS. I just find and edit photos by two methods:
  1. Use windows file explorer to find the photo to edit.
    1. Right click the photo and choose "open with" and choose PSE. Or choose "send to" and choose PSE.
  2. Open PSE.
    1. Click "Open" at the upper left, or click File > Open.
    2. Navigate to the photo to be edited and click it.
    3. Photo opens in PSE.
I don't like to use organizers. I organize my photos myself using the following:

D:\PHOTOS
.... YYMMDD Alaska cruise
.... YYMMDD Hokkaido trip
.... Automobile
.... Boat
.... Family
.... Friends
.... etc.

There are many "YYMMDD Subject Name" folders and I keep adding as time goes by.
The folders without the YYMMDD prefix hold miscellaneous photos as time goes by.

You are, no doubt, much more organized than I! I do have a D drive in my old computer.

In that case, since your photos are on the D drive in your old PC, then you must be correct that PSE in your new PC is looking for the photos on a D drive in your new PC.

Just make sure that the path to the photos on the new D drive is "identical" to where they are on the old D drive and everything should be fine.

Happy editing,
Sky
