Do you have images that just look much better in HDR? Post them in this thread. Viewers will need to use a browser and monitor that support HDR to see them in HDR. The default renderings may not show in HDR, but original versions should, I think.

Hi Victor,

I don't understand your requirements to view the images.

In my standard Lenovo screen they look slightly over exposed.

What model Lenovo do you have? Doing a search, it appears some X-series models support HDR, but the rest do not from what I can tell. I did not spend much time ensuring the SDR versions were properly set, so it's entirely possible I set the levels too high for SDR display. They may be clipped in HDR as well, if your HDR does not support as many stops as were included in the HDR output.

In my original post, if the colors on the images embedded in the post match the colors when viewing the original, then your system is not displaying in HDR. If it did support HDR, the two would be much different.

HDR really shows the blue of this dragonfly.

It looks like if the image is small enough, the forum software won't reprocess it. I don't know what that size is, but 1000 x 1000 seems to work. This post is a test to confirm this idea.

Hi Victor,

That is a nice pic.

What is it that you are testing?

I'm testing whether the forum simply displays the original image if it's small enough. It seems that the answer is yes and 1000px is small enough.

I reprocessed this picture from my archives using a trial version of DxO PureRaw and exported from Lightroom using Jpeg HDR Rec. 709. This time I'll bet the picture is big enough that the forum software resamples it without HDR for the embedded picture. Yep, open the original to see the HDR version if you system is able.

I recently found out that when processing HDR images in Lightroom, I get more stops of HDR when I turn the brightness of the monitor down. I guess this is because at full brightness, the illumination is at 100% for white. When the brightness is turned down, it can then add more brightness for the HDR.

I believe one of these will display as HDR and the other won't. The only difference is the size of the image uploaded. For the one that is not displayed as HDR, opening the original show show it as HDR.

Interesting - the HDR images are no longer rendering on the new version of the Brave browser - at least with my current session.

Interesting - the HDR images are no longer rendering on the new version of the Brave browser - at least with my current session.
Apparently, something broke in chromium - I've reported it. It works with avif files, but avif files are not supported here.

Edit: I reported the bug to chromium developers using their bug reporting tool. It was originally set as a P2 bug but was quickly escalated to P1 and then P0 because the bug was blocking the upcoming release. As of this morning a fix has been coded, tested, and a PR approved to be merged into what I think is the next stable release. Chromium is the engine used by both Chrome and Brave as well as some other browsers.

The bug has been fixed, and the new version of Chrome now shows the images again. Brave has not updated to the latest Chromium yet, but it will probably happen soon.

Now Brave is updated with the new Chromium, so the issue is resolved.
