Bobby J. you are absolutely correct about NC.Duke Blue I'm guessing you are in NC. I lived in Charlotte for 25 years (would like to be there now) and the damned squirrels ate my deck, and did a lot of damage to my soffit.
It cost me over 600.00 to repair the damage to the soffit and the deck needed to be replaced. This is a great shot but I am NOT a squirrel lover. However I do have some pretty good squirrel shots as I had lots of opportunities.
I live in Raleigh. Last year I had so many squirrels running around my backyard that I prayed for Hawks and Owls. No answer to my prayers. One of them was climbing up a screen in my porch.Duke Blue I'm guessing you are in NC. They spent a few weeks burying acorns in my backyard. Digging holes in my grass.
They terrorized the birds in my neighbor's bird feeder. A couple of them were able to dive off his roof and land on the feeder, even he greased up one of those plastic discs.
So am not a fan. But they are pretty smart ...
Oh Wow.Blue, I think it's just bureaucratic overkill. I know people who do hunt them and eat them, and I have eaten them once. Not for me. I will say this, they are surprisingly smart, really, they can think. Good moms too. They look after their babies. But one of my neighbors got them in his attic and what they did there is nothing you'd want to see.![]()

The pictures were taken in southern Finland, less than 100 m from my home. There are about one million squirrels in Finland. The stock has long been on a steady decline as squirrel habitats are constantly decreasing. In the cities, on the other hand, squirrel populations have remained or even increased slightly, but I haven't heard anyone here claim that we have too many squirrels. In the old days, the squirrel was a valued animal in Finland and was previously used as a substitute for money. Squirrel skins were a valuable barter and squirrel skins were exchanged e.g. to salt.Squirrels are just bushy-tailed rodents. Really. They can do damage, as you said.
The red squirrel in the image is likely from England, or possibly Norway, and I hope they are around for many human generations.
