So I've owned this lens' little brother, the 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6, for six years now. Got it for use with an E-M5.2, which was my entry into ILC digital photography. A few years ago, I bought a very nice used E-M1.2 , which is all I use now. My go-to lens is a 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro, but the little old 40-150 also gets some use.

I absolutely love my 12-40 f/2.8, and have been lusting after the 40-150 f/4. It's hard to justify the expense to gain one f stop, but I simply like the size and feel of the Pro lenses. Give me some more reasons for buying the 40-150 f/4.0 while it's on sale for $599.

I just received the lens. First thoughts were 1) It's weird that it has a "parked" position, and you have to rotate the zoom ring to get to the point where you can adjust the focal length.
One interesting behavior I've read about - if the lens is not parked, the camera won't enter sleep mode. Perhaps others might comment further on this.

I was curious so I tried it on an OM1 and... it still goes into sleep mode (when not "parked"). Did the same with the 8-25 f4 Pro (same locking mechanism) and the same, goes into sleep mode.

Maybe that behavior, if true, is more camera dependent?

I have both lenses and they are both very sharp. I have no concerns about the sharpness of the 4-5.6 version.

The plastic lens travels with the M-10 II and the f4 Pro goes with the M-1 II.

The f4 Pro is sharper wide open and at 150mm. When I got the f4 lens I immediately did a comparison. I am not sure if I was more surprised at how good the 4-5.6 lens was or disappointed in how little improvement the f4 lens made ... lol

No, I did not. I read a few reviews, but those comments must have flown right over my head. However, it seems to be a good trade-off for more compact storage. I bought it at Amazon, so I have "free returns", but that thought has never crossed my mind! By the way, it shipped FedEx Saturday delivery, and was hand delivered to my door.
