Road trip to the Forest Grove Concours.
Took the ferry from Seattle to Bremerton and back rods from there to the Columbia River where we stopped to stretch near the Astoria Bridge. We took Route 203 to 26 to Forest Grove. 203 is a 27-mile well-engineered and smooth surface winding 2nd and 3rd gear turn road. We were lucky to have it to ourselves that morning. It is ideal for enjoying our cars at the legal limit.
My car is the medium grey on the left. The car in the middle is a 510 HP, 6-liter 12-cylinder version. The factory did quite a job fitting it in that little car. The hood louvers are functional to let the heat out.
We overnighted in Forest Grove and went on the wine country tour in the morning. This is the assembly point for the drive.
This little Triumph was driven up from Las Vegas. The owner won the long-distance award.
The incredible Lord Howe Mercedes. Priceless. The only one in the world. A 1929 SSK chassis and drivetrain on a custom body and interior. The supercharged straight 8 engine was the most powerful motor you could buy in a street car at the time. The Lord had to have it. He competed in and won a lot of races including the 24 Hours of LeMans. His wife made him put a custom body on this car because she said, it would not be fitting for an English Lord to drive around England in a German car 11 years after fighting a war with Germany. When the lord passed the car went with his race car collection and was restored on a blank check in New Jersey. It returned to Seattle in the French Blue and polished hood the Lord drove it and collected nearly 150 speeding tickets in England. The owner sent it to Pebble Beach where it won Best of Show in 2017. An impressive car, it nearly knocked me down when I saw it on the winner's ramp in Pebble.
This is a Cisitalia. Very rare. It's the only one I've ever seen. With a Jag E-Type, they are the only cars on permanent display in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art.
So tiny and fragile looking, it looks like driving a cigar-shaped tube of tinfoil.
Unrestored Hudson. Thanks to the owner for bringing it out and driving it.
American Muscle
Big year for the 1964 Mustangs. This is a nice one.
