GFX portrait pros studio image thread

I would like to see some Hasselblad strobe shots.
Not X series, but HB.

Lighting: Two Balcar strobes, one on each side, diffused by 3x6 foot panels. All were exposed for 1/125 seconds, which means I could have shot them with a GFX.

Thanks. Anything outside with people using the LS lenses?
I know you have been asking for a while for outdoor strobe shots with LS lenses but me thinks LS lenses aren't as popular in outdoor shooting. although, I find them very useful when shooting against the sun (with my RX1R).

Even P1 advertises their XF system with LS lenses for studio photography. I don't understand it but perhaps there is a good reason leaf shutter lenses are best for in studio photography with controlled lighting. Maybe for all other outdoor photography FPS is the best solution with HSS.

Not sure what you are looking for or hoping to see - but over the years I have taken lots of pictures outside with my Hasselblad using both studio flash lights and portable flash lights - here are a few:

I have a long exposure, seaside, sunset, full length portrait shot with supplemental strobes planned. Trouble is I need an assistant to pull it off - and I can't find one...

Why you need a LS lens for studio? You can control your ambient easily so even a camera with sync speed of 1 seconds would do. Unless you shooting moving things like products dropped into water action kind of shots.

Cheers,

Mostly want to see the shutter speed being used and see how much strobe power is needed to properly light up 1 or group of people when shooting outdoors in the sun. Right now I mainly shoot 1 person and use 2 AD600s firing into a 1200ws head, using HSS mode on my GFX100s.

GFX100s 80mm f1.7 @f2, 1/320 in HSS mode. One AD600 in a medium softbox. We had a lot of fires in CA tat the time o make that bg sky color. No sky replacements for me.

GFX100s, 80mm f1.7 @f2, 1/1000. I think I had 2 AD600s firing into 1200ws head, if I am not mistaken.

GFX50s, 80mm f1.7 @f1.7. 1AD600 in a medium SB, 1 AD600 in a strip box.

Same setup as above, GFX100s, 80mm @f1.7, 1 AD600 for main, 1 AD600 for rim on the left. Wish I had another strip box for the right side.

GFX100s, 110mm @f2, 1/125. 1 AD600 in a Elinchrom 39" deep octa

Please share your studio images here with some information about lighting setup.

I love seeing everyone's work, great thread.

Here's three with different levels of editing and feel

Simple stuff - couple of Godox lights, one in an Octa up and cam right, and one back and cam left, as I am sure you could work out! Back light should have been a bit higher maybe, but I like the lightness of the shot nonetheless. 50S and the 110mm

bd4ab2c1a7eb47979af4ab6fd0921ad1.jpg

This one with more aggressive skin editing (to model's taste) but simple one light which was a rotolight Aeos camera right! 100s and the 45mm 2.8

And finally another with strobes - a godox 600 pro in an octa for key cam right, and a little AD200 behind and cam left! 100s and the 45mm.

i suppose the models are constantly moving during the shoot in studios. Also don't you need a high shutter speed with those bright strobes so you don't over expose the shot esp at wide apertures?

Fair enough!

As you can see I would usually try to make it look like it was naturally lit…

(On the balcony, looking out over the bay at the Galway Bay Hotel)
(On the balcony, looking out over the bay at the Galway Bay Hotel)

.. rather than look like it was an ad for the lighting company - so the people may not look like they have been lit at all, by anything other than the sun.

In other words: We work very hard to make it look like we did nothing at all... besides take a picture of what was there :-)

What is meant by "strobes"? Is it a synonym for electronic flashgun or something else? The word "Strobe" makes me think of one of those flashing lights that give people fits...

Strobe is a term in photography that is used to describe any kind xenon discharge lighting.

There is hot shoe flash, called simply flash and then there is a lot more powerful studio flash which is called just a strobe.

Strobe is more of an American term. I would call them flash or studio flash, and flashguns "speedlights" or "flashgun" or "on camera flash".
