Back about 2008 I was sticking my toe in the digital waters with the Canon A series -- I thought 6MP competed well with the film of the day ... When I decided to return to system cameras it was theses forums -- you and all the members of the Oly SLR TALK forum that took me away from Canon to Olympus -- not the reviews. ... Anyway, back then I thought Imaging Resource and Camera Labs provided better reviews for my taste ... There are still several Lens review sites that are much better than anything offered here .., but not as persuasive as seeing how these lenses performed and were used by actual users here .... I think it was Digirame's posts that convinced me to try the old 70-300mm lens that was indeed unique and one of the most versatile lenses I ever used ... I have to admit that if the Panasonic G1 wasn't version 1.0 of mirrorless digital I would have gone there and would probably still be using Panasonic (which I did for several years after the G2 was introduced... and did until Olympus brought out the first E-M5.)It's interesting that you identified the reviews as something you really don't look at much. I am the say way.
Ten years ago, the reviews were a critical part of this site. The full reviews, then and now, of new camera bodies are very thorough however, they are not particularly timely. Full reviews for a camera such the Sony with the global shutter, were published 6 months after the camera was available. I am not sure how this process can be streamlined other than to water it down. Hiring more people could speed the process, but that requires revenues to pay the people.
If we turn back the clock to 2008 or so, the camera industry was booming, particularly among consumers transitioning from film to digital. Which camera should I buy? DPReview provided helpful reviews and forum members who cheerfully provided advice. The consumer was ready to go and only had to go to Amazon.
