Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

Beautiful flowers, Craig, with great colour. I like the second one best for the buds peeking out from behind.

I told you titles are the hardest part. Sometimes I'm ready to post and I just can't think of one. I like your inventive solution but don't want to plagiarize. I should try one of the title generators online. Rich
Thanks, Rich. I have worked hard to improve the flowers this summer.

Titles are easy, Rich. Start with "No Title" and work on variations--"Time and Title Wait for no Man."

I took a trip to Washoe Lake yesterday. It was late morning, so there were not a lot of creatures stirring.

A fishing lure left on a picnic table. There is a message here.

Everybody must be taking a nap, Craig.

In the first picture, I wonder if you used bird recognition, or manual focus, or what made the camera focus on the bird instead of the plant in front of it.

That dragonfly looks good zoomed in. It's a great example of how thin the DOF is at that focal length. Or, DOF=1 dragonfly...almost.

Jake is a cute anemometer. Rich

I think everyone is taking a nap. They could be out taking pictures? (nah). Fortunately, you and I remain on the job.

For some reason the camera actually focused on the bird by itself. I did not use MF. I was surprised that it came out in focus.

Yes, Jake has the windblown look mastered it seems. He gets a lot of practice out here.

I tried to take a nap, but it did not work out well for me! Early to bed tonight I guess.

Canning season. I got to do clean up. The top of the stove was a mess! There has to be an easier way to get spilled stuff off the top of a stainless steal top. I need a spray on cleaner to make my life easier!

The rose turned out well Craig. Getting rid of too much of the magenta cast tends to leave the reds rather flat and lacking detail. Some one needs to design a better sensor that can do a good job with reds. I only had the E-1 with the Kodak sensor. Not sure if those did a better job or not. What about the Fuji s with the trans sensors? Do they do better? Do you still have any of the crop sensor Fuji s or are they gone? Does the large Fuji have a trans sensor? Does it do any better with reds than the OM cameras? Too many questions!

Bed time for me soon as I did not get that nap this afternoon and not enough sleep last night!

I still have a Fuji APC-S camera body around here. I sold my lenses to finance to GFX purchase. The GFX does not utilize the X-Trans sensor--it requires a great deal of processing power that would require a bigger body.

I think the Fuji cameras do okay with the reds. The GFX system is not great for flowers and getting close. I have tried the extension tubes, but those are a pain. My OM gear does just fine. I am warming up to the 90mm macro.

All of that work should help you sleep tonight. More canning tomorrow?

Very nice work Craig. The bird, butterfly and dragonfly are great captures.

The second image looks familiar. I'm sure I've seen something similar around here.😊

Jake looking devilishly handsome as ever.

Thanks, Dave.

The camera loves Jake.

The reds look very good in this image Craig. The bee in the flower is lost in the shadows but that is a different story altogether! You have had that Fuji for a while now. Are you happy with your decision? In the overall scheme of things the camera body is not all that expensive compared to the FF high end models. The glass is another story though!

The reds do look better.

I am glad I purchased the Fuji camera and lenses. The bodies are reasonably priced now. The glass is priced at levels comparable to the nominal prices of Super High-Grade lenses back in the day. The quality is there too. It wasn't cheap then and it still isn't cheap now. Other than 35-70mm, there are no low-cost options.

For me, the most difficult parts of the system are the focal length ranges of the zooms. Fuji for the most part has a nice selection of primes, and zooms, but the zooms are only about 2x--32-64mm, 45-100mm and 100-200mm. This complicates things a bit--an extra lens. A natural kit is the 20-35mm, 45-100mm and the 100-200mm. That covers most situations. A fourth lens would be the 35-70mm kit lens--small and light and perfect for walking around. I assume that the costs, size, and optical quality are the limiting factors.

The GFX 100s has very slow AF. It is just the nature of the beast. I understand the newest generation is vastly improved, but the size of the lenses requires motors that move bigger optics. The first and second generations are a bit clunky--comparable to older DSLR cameras. I understand that the AF with the latest generation is much improved.

Almost all of the lenses have aperture rings--a feature that I like a lot.

There are other complications in use--shallow depth of field is one challenge. The files generated are enormous when processed--the TIFFs are 500MP after denoising and processing in DeepPrime.

The image quality is unsurpassed for a camera body at this price point. When you nail a picture, the results are awesome in terms of detail and quality. It is a very different experience compared to the m43 kit. Things move a bit more slowly with the medium format and I am fine with that.

You get a long response today on this rainy Saturday. We had some showers this morning and these are always welcome here.
