Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

You used that 9 mm a lot Dicky. A fast wide lens is useful for interior work! Looks lovely. Not as far for us to travel to the nearer parts of Europe as for you but still likely longer than I want to spend on an airplane. A long time to spend seated on a plane. I tried sleeping on a long distance bus ride a life time ago. I got no sleep! It seemed no one else was interested in sleeping and there was lots of conversations going on.

Now I have a question for you, are Italian wines cheaper there than at home? All alcohol is expensive here now. Fifty years ago a case of 24 beers here was $4. Now it is north of $50. An inexpensive wine would set you back less than $2 a bottle. A good imported sherry perhaps a bit under $4. I don't know how working class people can afford to drink today.

We have a small collection of purchases cellared. Likely a couple of hundred. Not sure why I continue to buy them since we have not had any wine at home in months.

The second is a real beauty Craig. Some radio tower on the peak it would seem. I hope there is a road up there from the other side because I would not want to have to go there to do maintenance otherwise!

I love to see the mountain scenery Craig. Makes me want to put my boots on and head on out there. Sadly the years are catching up on me but I've come to terms with that and can still enjoy a day in the great outdoors.

Dave
More flowers, Dave.

It was great to get out in the mountains. Unhappily, the next trip is delayed until the smoke from the fires in California subsides.

Nope, Craig, I didn't think you were being overly critical. Constructive criticism one way to get better at this and yours is always acceptable because you are an excellent photographer and also not a jerk. 🤣

I am going back with 8-25, 7-14 and 8mm fisheye.

This is how that locomotive looks from the outside. I had to work around all the stuff stacked inside. It is removed when the roundhouse is open for visitors, but the visitors make the photography more difficult than the inanimate impediments. Rich

Thanks, Dicky. I like all trains and locomotives but the steam engines speak to me, too. I was invited to climb up into the cab of a steamer while it was up to steam. It is really HOT in there. Rich

Thank you, Andrew. Yup, anything with iron in it rusts here. The moisture even gets under the paint.

I will go back better prepared. I plan to take 7-14, 8-25, 8mm fisheye and an extra FL 50r with a stand to extend the light. Rich

Beautiful flowers, Craig, with great colour. I like the second one best for the buds peeking out from behind.

I told you titles are the hardest part. Sometimes I'm ready to post and I just can't think of one. I like your inventive solution but don't want to plagiarize. I should try one of the title generators online. Rich

I've never had an DSLR style camera before, I hope I post these right, not sure how to add Exif data. I got the camera yesterday :-)

No editing on the photos just directly from the camera (Evolt E-500)

That's beautiful scenery Craig and lovely to see the wild flowers in the area. Hopefully you'll be able to get out there soon again if the wildfires calm down.

An interesting set to browse, and welcome to this thread! You did well Josh!

The exif is automatically added to the images posted as long as you don't remove the exif information before posting Josh. If you hoover your mouse over any of the posted images you will see the exif for that image. Likewise with images posted by others. When images are processed in software and jpgs are created it is possible to strip the exif information from the image. This usually requires the user to select that option and the default option is usually to include the exif. You can download OM Workspace from OM Systems webpage (formerly Olympus) and get some basic processing tools in it. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask.

The scenery there is great. I feel fortunate that we have managed to avoid the smoke from the fires until Wednesday. It might be a while before the air clears.

Hey there Andrew... hope you're getting around well.

In that photo you're standing about a mile east of the Pacific Ocean at an elevation of about 600 feet above sea level.

I don't drive a truck, hence I don't have a dog. :-)

Hey Rich... it was cloudy on the coast and warm and sunny inland near the bay...

That neighborhood has a lot of 800-1,200 square foot homes. Modest in size but not in price. You're talking a median price of around $950 per square so doin' the math a little job in need of work would probably set you back around $750,000+ and a larger house would be over $1.1 million. Median price in Pacifica last month was $1,374,000.

:-)
