Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

Beautiful scenery, Dicky. The weather looks wonderful too. The picture of the sunrise is especially nice. I guess you left your 150-400mm at home.

Thanks Craig, I reluctantly left the BWL at home thinking I would not have much use for it being in mostly crowded areas. Given the temperature was 35°C+ most days I think it was a wise decision.

Thanks Craig. I should point out that the local resident is female. Don't let the horns fool you.

A large dram was enjoyed in the evening but failed to alleviate my aches and pains. Maybe I should have had a second.

A female redhead with pointy horns is best given a wide berth.

Thanks Pete. It's a lovely glen and I seldom meet anyone else which suits me just fine.

Dave

Thanks Dicky. Good to see you back.

You were very close to the area in Tyndrum. Glen Strae was part of Clan Campbell territory in bygone times.

I love these old steam driven locomotives Rich. Take me back to my childhood crossing the Forth railway bridge. I've hardly been on a train since.

Dave

A really nice selection of images Andrew especially those of the butterfly. They never seem to hang around long enough for me to grab a shot.

Dave

Oh what a surprise Craig. Flowers for a change., 😀

As beautiful as always.

Dave

In all the humidity you out there Rich, it must be nearly impossible to keep the non painted parts rust free. A wonderful machine and result.

I have to think the 8 - 25 will be a better match for those conditions Rich. Not sure how the flash will work though. Diffusers required for wider than 12 mm I think but it has been a while since I last used my FL50.

Thanks Rich, and for your comments in the last thread. It filled before I could respond.

The background is better shooting away from the house so I try to do that when possible. Otherwise brown brick work is the back drop! I do like the swallow tails but I have seen fewer and fewer monarchs here over the years. It was once filled with them during the summer. I may as well remove the milkweeds we have allowed to grow as they have no takers. The swallow tails are also declining in numbers as well as the other butterflies and the humming birds as well. I don't know why. We still get thousands of dragonflies in the air at times. Many thousands! They don't want to sit still for me though so few images of them.

It has been hot with little rain for the past three weeks. That is good because the JD will be out of commission likely for another week. Dead battery but the bad news is something took out the 'instrument cluster'. It is $1007 CAD for the part and has to be brought in from the U.S. This repair will top $2000. It may be time to get another tractor. Like old cars stuff begins breaking at an increasing rate. The Yanmar diesel should last at least another 1000 h and I have no idea about the longevity of hydrostatic transmissions. I think the alternator is suspect personally but???

Thanks Pete. We had one of the smaller swallow tails out front two nights ago but the lens fogged up upon leaving the house to try to shoot it. The smaller ones are more colourful viewed from the top. They come in both black/blue varieties and yellow/black.

Those yellow flowers last all season but the blue are hosta blooms and they last only a couple of weeks. We have many varieties of hostas on the property and thankfully they bloom at different times.

Thanks Dave.

You need to do what WN does and sit in the garden with your camera and a libation of your choice. Don't do it in the rain though. I don't see many butterflies in the rain. Has me wondering where they hang out while it rains! Perhaps they hang upside down from some leaves. Apparently I should ask some Ai search engine and find out!

I love to see the mountain scenery Craig. Makes me want to put my boots on and head on out there. Sadly the years are catching up on me but I've come to terms with that and can still enjoy a day in the great outdoors.

A nice set Dave! Ten miles is a lot for someone that has not been on a hike for a long while. Hope you recover quickly. A search party would be out looking for me or my body if I attempted that. I might surprise myself and make it a mile or a bit more. I should go on a walk with my phone and leave my wife at home. When I ran out of ability I could call for a ride. Then I would know how far was possible. I managed several km when we went to Newfound Land two years ago. That was after the accident which made the back worse but before the recent turn of events. I am still hoping for a better recovery than I currently have so that we could travel again and I could walk a fair distance.

Today I received news of the passing of another former colleague. He was two years younger than I am. Makes you thankful to be still on the right side of the grass!!! Get those muscles back in shape Dave and get out and do those things you enjoy!
