I have done something stupid and turned my XH2 into an expensive brick, and I can't figure out how to fix it.

A few months ago, since I wasn't using the LCD display very much, I changed the settings to display on the viewfinder only, both for shooting and playback. (Previoiusly, I had it set to switch from viewfinder to LCD depending on whether the viewfinder sensor was triggered.) After shooting in an awkward position, where using the LCD display would have been useful to composing the shot, I tried to switch the settings back to their original state, but when I did, whether in shooting or playback mode, the LCD screen would not display anything. I'm not aware of any physical damage to the LCD that could explain its failure to display. This is when I did something stupid. I changed the setting to LCD screen only, thinking that doing so might trigger the LCD screen to work again.

Unfortunately, now I can't see anything through either the viewfinder or on the LCD screen. I thought I would do a factory reset, but can't figure out how to do that when I can't see the camera menus. Then I thought about connecting the camera to a computer monitor via HDMI to see if the camera screen (i.e., menu settings) could be made to appear on an external monitor so I could navigate to either change the menu settings back to viewfinder only or perform a factory reset, but I can't figure out how to make that work.

Before trying to interact with Fuji or sending my camera in for repair, I thought I would see whether any of the experts in this community could help with this unusual problem.

Any suggestions or solutions would be much appreciated.

Does pressing the "View Mode" button (right side of EVF housing) cycle through the options to display images and there menu on the LCD?

Thanks, Bill.

No, I had reassigned that button to turn the electronic level off and on.

If you put the camera in movie mode, will the menu display in either the EVF of LCD?

That worked! It displays the menu for movie mode in the viewfinder. I then tried "Filter," which allowed me to see the menu for stills and change the setting to Eye Sensor for View Mode Setting. I guess I will have to have my LCD repaired, but at least I can use the camera in the meantime. Many, many thanks for your help!

You're welcome. I'm glad that worked out. If you're able to restore the view mode button to its default function, you could try cycling through the various combinations of EVF and LCD to confirm the LCD is broken. Or you could do a factory reset and see if that restores the LCD to working.

Thanks again. Willl try to avoid factory reset, but if I do, I hope to save my settings in the app so that they can be restored.

Backup your settings and then do a factory reset. On windows you use Fuji X-Acquire for this.

Or he can use the Fuji X app on his phone. More convenient in my opinion.

Thanks to both you and Morris for your suggestions. I will probably take a "belt and suspenders" approach and do both!
