Good morning all, can I do the upgrade through camera itself without using SD card and if it does and how. Thank you

The 2 methods are with SD card, or via the App.

And you should use the SD card method EVERY time.
Why is that?
It’s the only reliable method. There are plenty of incidents where people have bricked their camera by attempting it over the app - plus it takes longer.

The reason (as I understand it) is that you are sending the update file over a network connection. If anything happens, or glitches, you have no idea if the received file is any good. By putting it on an SD card, you are eliminating one source of potential error as copying a file is much much more reliable and can be checked (if you want) before you put it into the camera.

The reason I asked is the I could not upgrade my X-T5 firmware from 3.01 to 4 by SD card and I thought it might be possible by other ways. I sent my question to Fujifilm.com yesterday and hopefully they will give me some options to solve my problem.

The file has error correction and check sum detection. There is a likelihood of error on any transmission of data, including over the internet to you computer. F/W installers will revert to the current F/W if there is an error so it is unlikely a camera can get harmed. The way to brick the camera is to start a F/W update with a low battery or turn it off prior to finish. I aways update my FW on my Xh2, Nikon Z8 and Leica Q2M using the respective apps.

This is non-sense that using the app to wirelessly perform a firmware upgrade is not reliable. This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. If your phone or camera powers off while the firmware is being transferred wirelessly, the programmers were competent enough to just revert back to the earlier firmware and stop the upgrade process. Whose word would you rather trust? The manufacturer of the camera and it’s engineers who created the app with a feature to safely do a firmware upgrade or this guy who thinks that a disconnect during the Firmware transfer would brick your camera?

note that during the actual firmware install, you do indeed need to leave hr camera powered on, but that’s the same whether you used SD or app

SD card is not faster. Try popping it out, downloading and pasting firmware on there, putting it back in camera and then later removing the card to delete the firmware… vs just using app

this guy just read stuff a decade ago about faulty wireless firmware upgrades and hasn’t been able to move on or accept new techniques have emerged to do this safely

Thank you all and actually my problem is that I downloaded the upgrade from Fuji site from 3.01 to 4 to my SD card and then transferred it to my X-T-5, it failed and the firmware of my X-T 5 remains as 3.01 although the code is matched with the new firmware code. This is the first time I do my firmware upgrade failed and no problem to my other X-T camera such as I currently owned X-T4. The failed upgrade my firmware doesn't really bother me but I am a little worry with other setups or the internal system.
