Since I've had my camera, when I try to download photos through the creators app, it always disconnects the first time when it starts downloading.

When I reconnect, it's fine. It did this with the previous app too, and it happens whether I'm connected to another wifi network or not.

My partner has a similar Sony camera too, and that does the same thing.

Is there a setting I need to change?

You're not ar fault nor your gear.

Sony is at fault by not hiring good sw dev since so many years.. Not much can be done against that.

Don’t know about “always” but it is certainly very common on my a7rv and a7rc using an iPhone 13

Not this exact problem, but a variety of others. Whilst occasionally it just works (like it should every time) It very often requires me to clear the app cache and restart my tablet before I can get a connection. This, sometimes, even if I was using it just a few minutes before.

If you can use a USB cable, rather than wireless, it is a lot simpler and more reliable. I can on my phone, but not on my tablet as they stipulate USB-C <--> USB-C, no adapters.

It's just a good thing we are not news men, trying to get an important pic back to the office! This Cr'App is so frustrating.

Things to TRY that may help…not from experience with this app but many like it.
  • Turn off cellular assist for weak WiFi connectivity.
  • set any known WiFi networks within range to NOT auto join.
  • check for local WiFi interference

It certainly happens for me. I want it working for GPS and time zone. Yesterday, after traveling, I found I was in the wrong time zone AND the program had logged me out. I had to jump through hoops to get back logged in. I have ca;;ed customer support and written to Sony sugesting that they need in camera GPS (which wouyld also give them thew ability to check the time zone) as was stated already in this thread this has been going on for at least a decade. Sony clearly desn't know how to write this type of software. I have other devices that connect day in and day out year after year mostly trouble free.

PS The worst is when it feels critical that it work and there is no cell coverage. Why does Sony have a need that I am logged in? That must be their marketing department. I'm holding an expensive camera that had to have come from Sony that I have already paid for. GET MARKETING AWAY from this software and GET ENGINEERING to put together something that just works!

I’ve used software for this with Panasonic m43, Olympus m43, Pentax, and Sony. All have sucked about equally. The Pentax software may be marginally better if I’m honest but not by much.

For what it's worth, the Creators App software works fine without being logged in or even having a Sony account. I use it for GPS, timezone, and transferring image files, and have never logged in to any account with the app.

Otherwise I agree fully that they're terrible at end-user software.

Just adding my experiences.

I've been using the Creators' App on my Pixel 7 with my a7C II and so far my experiences have been positive (relative to using Imaging Edge Mobile). Setup with the initial connection went without issue and so far I have not had to reconnect to the camera. Sending images from my camera automatically initiates a connection with my phone in the background.

Given this, I believe that the general consensus is that the user experience for the app is terrible and how some people may feel about the Creators' App is how I felt about Imaging Edge Mobile.

I’ll try using it without logging in. I didn’t know that that was an option.

I envy you your success with Cr'app! My experience is indeed contrary:

a6500+Imaging Edge Mobile --- Just worked.

a7iv+Cr'app --- only-just works and not always.
