Started using lightroom after 5 year hiatus - man is it awful

Thanks all, I didn't realise I needed lightroom classic.

Sorted now.

I'm still considering cancelling, I thought the monthly option meant I could cancel at a month's notice, but I just learned that they charge an additional 50% of the annual cost.

That's a very predatory practice and I really don't agree with how they do business now.

As my Income doesn't depend on photography, ita time to try something different.
Adobe offers only a yearly license. You can pay monthly. It's not predatory.

As pointed out not all people take the time to read even if is right in front of them.

I paid annually for many years. With all the price increases last year I decided to pay monthly. During the last month (week actually) of my annual plan I just called Adobe, they cancelled the annual plan and opened a monthly one. Nothing was lost. Quick and easy.

This was interesting.

Yes, but if you cancel your "monthly" plan, you're hit with steep fees. That is the nub of the conflict.

It’s not a conflict. That information is clearly available and it alerts you to that during purchasing process. So people don’t take the time to read everything and it’s Adobe’s fault?

If you buy a car with a 4 year term and you didn’t read or pay attention to the mown details. You stop payments after two years, they take your car and this so a conflict? This is the bank’s fault?

The Federal Trade Commission doesn't seem to think it's that simple.

To close this off, I ended up canceling my subscription with adobe before the end of the free trial.
The website would not let me cancel, just saying "you'l be able to manage your subscription shortly".
The support page brought me to a location where i could try and cancel but clicking "cancel" just gave an "unspecified error".

So, onto their chat. Support offered a discount for 3 months, but threw the legalese at me when i asked about cancellation fees.

The fact that the cancelation fees they are charging & the difficulty in canceling are being challenged by the US Dept of Justice tells me a lot.
Ill give Luminar a go, maybe affinity.
Im sure they are not as streamlined as lightroom, but as photography is not my income, i can afford to try alternatives.
Winston I am glad you come to a decision that works for you. Many here will help you with an alternative tool. Personally, subscriptions take the enjoyment out what is meant to be fun for me. Life is too short to waste time tending to a ball and chain. I usually don't participate in threads like these just for that reason. I just needed to chime in, to thank you for starting this thread because I do find the Shills exposing themselves interesting and entertaining. It is fun to try guessing who they are.

Independence Day for us here in the US today! You just declared your own personal independence right here in this thread. How fitting is that!!!

A thumbs up to you.

Have nice weekend Winston.

I do not fill any dependence to declare independence. Very strange to fill dependence from software. Nobody forces you to use it, and I have a news for you - it is not addictive.
A thumbs up to you.

I think it is. How many years ago did that whole process start. 4, 5? The reports also said people got hit with plans that cost hundreds of dollars? How many walk blindly into a $50 a month all apps plan? If you spend that much you are a pro that earns using those apps. We'll see what the courts decide.

I just had a look at C1Pro and IMO opinion is no different from Adobe. At least when you purchase from Adobe it says penalties may apply if you leave the plan early. I didn't see any warnings, etc here.

There are true haters. Then there are the ones who just like to push buttons. I like the true haters much better. Then you have competitors coming in trying to scare people off Adobe. 30 post and know exactly what to say. Right to the point.

But that is social media for you. If anyone watched "The Social Dilemma" on Nextflix. Designed to get you and keep you angry. More hits that way.

Capture One subscriptions are only prepaid commitments. You pay up front and commit for a month at a time or pay up front and commit for a year at a time. Either way, there are no early cancellations and no refunds. So, they are different from the Adobe annual commitment that's charged monthly. They're not necessarily better, but they are different.

I do not care much when people do not like Adobe or subscription model. That is their opinion and they entitled to have one. What I do not like is when people start to call other people, who happened to like Adobe, - shills, balled and chained, dependent.

Absolutely. I couldn't care less is someone dislikes Adobe. I don't care what they use and if Adobe ever ticks me off I'll drop them in a heart beat. I don't care how much the penalty is.

There are good conversations where ask good questions about concerns. They should be able to do that. I despise deliberate disinformation. It's not as bad these days.

It says on the page early cancellation fees may apply.
The fact that the cancelation fees they are charging & the difficulty in canceling are being challenged by the US Dept of Justice tells me a lot about Adobe's questionable practices. If I buy something on Amazon that costs hundreds of dollars and return it within 30 days, I pay nothing because they absorb the handling and shipping fees. Downloading software costs Adobe nothing extra.
So if I buy DXO, C1 pro, etc and don’t like it after 6 months do I get half my money back?
DXO does not offer a subscription plan so if you buy it you can continue to use it indefinitely because you own it. It's not as if you bought an object that you can return. If you purchase a subscription plan and don't like the product you should pay only for the time you could use it because upon cancellation the software becomes unusable.
I'm not talking about subscription. If I buy DXO and don't like it after 6 months can I return it and get half of my money bacK?
No. How can you "return" software?

So then what difference does it make if you agree to a one year contract with an Adobe subscription, decide to leave after 6 months and are charged a fee. In both cases you paid full price for the products.

Again, DXO and others are not subscription based. When you buy it, you can use it forever. I think it would be simple good will if Adobe simply let people cancel their subscription and pay nothing beyond the cancellation date. Is what they do wrong or illegal? Maybe not but it still is a slap in the face to the customer and seems selfish on their part. When word gets around it may discourage others from trying their product.

It’s an annual contract just like C1Pro offers. If someone doesn’t like it then they should not sign up. If they can’t take the time to read or ask some questions it’s their own fault for not doing their research.

Really? I can use PL forever? The tell me why I can’t use PL3? Tell me why didn’t even get a full year out of it. This is what I was told in these forums. It was my fault for buying PL3 and not doing my research.

. If people can’t

You could still use PL3 with the cameras you owned at the time. Other than that, I give up. You seem to think Adobe can do no wrong.

Its only 119.00 bucks a year. (US).....

It will be possible to buy one-month coupon licenses for Lightroom. It is listed in one shop here but is not available yet. It is, logically, expensive though.
