I'm not done with the processing, but I thought I'd put up three with different sorts of backgrounds. To allow examination of the image quality, I've put up full-size images which can be accessed by clicking the link below each resized image or pasting the URL into a browser window:

WOW!!!! I am not surprised with the beauty of compositon mind you! Nice job, Ron. I guess you we can safely say you finally got your D2H.... Are you now going to be able to stick with finishing the book? :-)

Thanks for sharing. You are making it hard to stick with my resolve to get a new computer before getting the D2H!

All the best,
Janice

Ron- Amazing dynamic range in the highlights, incredible. That 3rd shot is gorgeous. But..the first image has very prominent smudge like artifacts in the shadows, not normal "noise". I can't imagine it's in your original, but what the heck is it? Best...Peter

Ron, did I ever tell you that I REALLY miss the weather in Southern California? Especially this time of year? I'm going to have to take my D2H back to NW Trek and shoot in the rain :-).

Great stuff, no surprise there...

Thanks,

Can I ask, what lens ?

The images are amazingly good. I'm sure it is partly the D2H, but
also, too, the lens.

Hi Ron,

You truly are the guru of Nikon photography. It did not take long for you to master a camera that is just making it's way in! I am still a student of photography so I cant help but wonder(its no wonder I want to keep taking courses) how it is all done specially when you see so much detail in white!
I am waiting for your book Ron.

Ron hi,
When we expect to see your book on the D2H?
Birddog114

Hi Harish,

Exposing white birds in mid-day, strong direct sunlight is an excellent test of my technique, the camera, and the processing software. I couldn't think of anything better for the first real shoot. Next: the Getty Museum and low-light work at medium to high ISO. I will get to know this beast rapidly.

I'll get back to the book as soon as I have a handle on this thing :^)

There are already several people who are putting books out on the camera. Thom will likely have one, Moose is supposed to be writing one too. Maybe others. Mine will be on acquisition technique, composition, and processing as well as a detailed treatise on how to expose properly and read the histogram.

The acquisition section is essentially complete already. I'll get to the rest soon.

Hi Ron. These are fantastic. I squinted mightily at all the full-sized images and I am sufficiently impressed. I'll be glad when mine arrives!

Ron,

Great shots.

What is your opinion re dynamic range? Did you get better highlight detail here than you might otherwise have expected?
