But there's more to it than that.

The bag was $50 or so. My 16-35L -- which was stolen -- was $1,350. The Sigma 15-30 that replaced it was $450. My 50/1.4 was $350, the 100/.8 Macro was $450, and the 300/4L IS was $1,200. Any of these go on my D60, which I paid $2,000 for ... it's lost most of it's cash value. ( You Rebel D owners are lucky!! ) So, depending how you look at it, that's approaching $6K, or less if you discount the stolen lens.

Then my laptop was $1,500. We won't even get into what the software cost -- that's intangible assets. I can't just up and sell my Photoshop license, if I ever really needed the money.

Now, what about actually going out to shoot pictures? There's another $1,500 ( plus lots of intangible maintenance...! ) for the car that's got me across country three times. Can't really factor in the price of the other cars I've had ... wasn't so much of a photographer back then. And the actual gas, camping fees, hotels when they're necessary, camping gear ... at least $10,000.

So, yeah, I spent a lot on my camera gear, but that pales in comparison to what I've spent to use it.

Sounds like a Mastercard commercial, huh? And the kicker ... the images, the memories, and the experiences are priceless:
