I have been experiencing this problem since I purchased the ZF last year. I have tried it many times over the past half a year, but always end up with this screen:

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hello.
  • Update all of your firmware, snapbridge, and your phone.
(Include this level of detail in your post.)
  • Reset all settings in your camera.
  • Make sure bluetooth, wifi, and location are enabled on your phone.
  • Make sure your phone isn't connected to anything else, and is fully charged.
  • Turn airplane mode and power saving off.
  • Restart both devices.
Good luck!

If you just need remote shooting (wireless triggering) maybe just look into the ML-7 bluetooth remote. It should work with the Zf. I could never get SnapBridge to reliably work (or even connect) to my Z8 and Zf, so I eventually gave up myself.

I have the Bluetooth connection working fine. On both my Z8 and Zf. I can't get wifi to work at all

Couple of things. The recent firmware and SnapBridge update have made you have to start connections from scratch again, because the security info is different in the background.

Second, if you've connected before on an iPhone you absolutely must go to Settings > Bluetooth > [device] i > Forget this device first.

Third, there's a loooooonnnnngggg delay before that dialog gets populated. It can be a full minute.

Try letting it sit on that screen for a minute. I get the same empty list as well but it eventually populates with my camera after a while.
I second this. Got into the same problem with my Zf. It took forever for the device name to show up. I had to cancel it many times cuz I thought something went wrong

Thank you all for your help. As several of you suggested, the issue was resolved by waiting for a much longer time. The ZF camera eventually showed up on the accessory list. It's weird that I didn't encounter this problem when connecting Z7/ZFc before, or my current Z8.

I've been using SnapBridge for GPS tagging with the Z8 and it works well most of the time. I would like to have the same function working for my ZF. Unfortunately, only one of the two cameras would receive the GPS data when I shoot with both of them.

Best,

Best,
Get a cheap Phone or reuse an old one.

( then use one for each camera )

Good suggestion, thanks! I think I can take advantage of my wife's iPhone.

Initially, I didn't wait long enough. Once I started waiting long enough, it would show up in the dialog but when I selected it and continued, it would start to connect and get about 3/4 of the way through some sort of progress wheel and then just bail out. I gave up for a while and just used Wifi but gave it another run. This time, I remove all bluetooth pairing info from my iphone for any Nikon devices and tried again. Then it worked and did complete the bluetooth pairing process and allowed me to turn AutoLink on.

For anyone who runs into this issue in the future, make sure that SnapBridge is up to date. It's been updated a few times since the Zf and z8 came out (and the Z6 III). Make sure when connecting to WIFI you have your security encryption set to something like WPA on your smartphone, since I don't think the Z cameras can support WPA2 and most likely not WPA3 but many smartphones and tablets may support WPA2/3 by default as it is more secure (as WPA was cracked many years ago hence the introduction to WPA2 and now 3). Also someone suggested that you leave BT alone and let the app turn BT on/off on its own as needed, but you will need to enable wifi and connect to the network that your camera sets up.

These tips helped me and now i can tether with my Z8 and Zf finally after about 2 years of trying with the Z8 and about a year of trying with the Zf. I still don't use SnapBridge most of the time, but at least this gives me an option now (for the Zf, especailly, since there is no wired-remote option).

Hopefully this helps someone. You may need to add/remove the camera a few times but these tips did help me and it was actually pretty quick once I took these steps.
