C'mon!!! Post Your May 2024 L-Mount Photos and Videos Here (Pretty Please!)

I was just testing my new 28-200.
Nice. How do you like the lens so far? Mine arrives Wednesday.
This was my first time with the lens and so far I really like it. The size is the same as 20-60 (or 1.8 primes). For the range, the tele side is just enough and actually I don't miss 20-28mm area so much. So, very easy to just shoot - as long as you have enough light. I wouldn't use it for indoors even though the focusing is still fast and accurate enough even with 200mm.

Of course you can argue of using dark super zoom with FF camera, but for me IQ is good enough and usability is much better than with kit lens, which was always a little bit too short.

You have a lot of lenses, George!!!
LOL, guilty.
How / when do you envision using the 28-200 compared to your other lenses?

I understand the allure of using it as a "do-it-all" lens, espescially on hikes,
Exactly that. Also, when I am on my bicycle, and traveling.
but I also know that image quality is important to you (as well as maximum aperture). So I am curious how you envision using it.
What I have eventually come to appreciate is that peak IQ really only matters (to me) for a very small percentage of images I make. I.e., when I plan a shoot and am hoping for fantastic light. Fantastic light almost never happens when hiking or cycling, because I get home before sunset. Not always - sometimes a planned shoot requires hiking & the use of lights to get home after dark - in which case I'll bring the good glass and the S1R - but most of the time, it's just a hike. So, in those situations I value weight and kit simplicity. And no, I'm not yet ready to carry ONLY the phone. Maybe in a few years, LOL.
Guess my feeble mind lacks the creative foresight to see it as much more than a glorified kit lens. So I defer to your ideas.
It absolutely is, but I'm hoping it's good enough most of the time. And you know what? If I do find myself in the midst of landscape-greatness, and am forced to capture that award-worthy shot with the 28-200 - since it's the only lens I have on me - the resulting image will still look great - still be award-worthy - and there are people who can work magic in post if I want to print large. So I don't see many downsides, other than having to think a little harder which lens to bring, LOL.

I recently changed my kit around, keeping my CL, which I love, and adding two Sigma L-Mount Lenses; the Sigma 45mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary and Sigma 17mm f4 DG DN Contemporary. While not pancake size, these two full-frame SL lenses are quite small, made out of metal & glass, no plastic, have smooth turning aperture and focus rings, plus an AF/MF switch, and they also take the same size filters and hoods.

Leaving the Wednesday before Memorial Day, and arriving back home 11:59 pm on Memorial Day, I drove from Minneapolis through South Dakota, Nebraska, Denver, and Utah, to Las Vegas. Stayed in one of the best views in the city. Then off to the Grand Canyon's South rim, and back to Minneapolis through SE Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa.....all I got was these lousy pictures:) My only regret is driving by Hoover Dam at night, and a missed opportunity for photos there.

The caption about losing my breath is no joke. I watched the sunrise for 10 minute or so, and as I took a few steps to go back to my car, I literally had my breath taken away, and felt like I had run a marathon.

Handheld slow shutter speed with the s5 and 50mm, fom my car window. Just out of frame on bottom, there is a concrete road divider to keep traffic clear, I was happy to be able to get (what I thought was) decent framing, without that divider in the shot.
