C'mon!!! Post Your May 2024 L-Mount Photos and Videos Here (Pretty Please!)

Here's some of shots of the aurora in Colorado. I escaped the clouds of Colorado in Colorado unlike George. :P This was at Jackson Lake State Park which is DarkSky certified.
All are shot with an astro-modded S5 with the Sigma 20mm f1.4 DG DN.

Earlier in the night before it became super active.

Looks great, shows the colours and activity well 👍🏻👍🏻

Sunrise and sunset.

I had my G9 paired with the Panaleica 50-200 for the Arc de Triomphe shot but I think I prefer the wider shot (at 105mm) with my S1R. I learnt from the other photographers who were literally 'camping' in the middle of the Champs Elysées avenue that the sun sets right in the middle of the Arc de Triomphe twice a year. I was lucky to be in Paris at that time. There was a lot of atmospheric haze (and pollution) unfortunately.

The sunrise shot was painfully early (4.30am start!) but I really like it.

TLDR: For using manual focus of stars, turn off focus highlighting (it gets in the way) and slowly turn the focus ring until your stars are as small as possible. I usually set Constant Preview to ON, then set my ISO to very high, with a short shutter speed (less than one second) so that I don't go crazy. Oh and if you use readers, get a more powerful magnification for when you are doing this kind of work.

Low-light AF tends to work pretty well on a star field - just set it to AFS with a medium-sized area. During focusing, you will see a "Low Light" message in the lower-left of the screen, and then get a green dot once it has locked. Usually takes about 1 second.
THAT just sorted me out. The blue focus highlighting was throwing me off. The rest of that I get and as mentioned could not use the EVF due to improvising with no tripod!

I was also in AFC…..my default. Now i know for next time.

Thank you! Now i’ll kick back and jealously observe the rest of the Aurora light show. Hopefully back out to the Chilterns for another crack at the stars if the weather cooperates. I have a spooky spot with a foreground church i’d like to try.

Interview shot on Panasonic S1 + Lumix 24-105 f/4 (A Cam) and Panasonic S5 (original) + Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 and Sigma MC-21.

Gimbal shots are Panasonic S5 (original) plus Canon EF-S 10-18 IS STM on MC-21. Gimbal shots are at 4K 60fps (aps-c crop, naturally).

These were all taken with my Leica CL & Panasonic Lumix S 100mm f2.8 Macro. Being old as dirt, I found my M increasingly difficult to use and decided it was time to downsize. I first looked at the DLux7 but decided I didn't want to go back to MFT, so I got a CL that came with the TL 18-56mm kit lens, which is quite small and light. But I spent my whole life shooting with primes, so I got the Panasonic S 100mm f2.8 Macro. While the lens is not heavy, it is large and I find myself struggling to get sharp in-focus photos. Panasonic makes a whole set of non-macro f1.8 SL lenses from 18mm to 85mm that are all the exact size as the 100mm. I just ordered the Leica TL 60mm f2.8 Macro which was designed for the CL and TL cameras plus a Sigma 45mm f2.8 DG DN K-mount lens which is almost a pancake lens. Not sure why I got another Macro lens because I've never used the Macro function on any of the ones I've had before but I just wanted one longer prime.

I geuss I piqued the curiosity - or at least the confusion - of this passer by as I was trying to take "artistic" photos of these bike racks. And no, I didn't blur her face out for privacy reasons. That is just the very nervous bokeh of the Minolta MC 35mm f/2.8 doing its thing. That is probably one reason why it is NOT a highly reated vintage lens.
