Fujifilm X-T50 Full Specs and Images Leaked!

The film sim dial is controversial, however, if this can be customized to select recipe banks then it would be more useful to me than the ISO dial. I am 99% in ISO auto but often change recipes, and/or would have dialed in some general quality params like curves, grain, color, and then flip between film sims. So I don't find this as awkward as some say it is. Anyway, I have an X-T5 and am not getting a new camera any time soon.
To answer myself, the film simulation dial is not programmable to use it for recipes. This makes it less useful but still useful to some I believe.

Why X100VI hasn't UHS-II? physical compact size limitation?
  • Fujifilm X-T50 - single UHS-II SD slot
  • Fujifilm X100VI - single UHS-I SD slot
That one really sucks. Seems like a pointlessly debilitating omission. Yeah people aren't buying that camera for the continuous shooting speed and deep buffer, but why not let them take advantage of the AF system if they want to?
I always look at decisions like this and think why... then assume that a bunch of Engineers always have a reason for something, they don't sit in hours of meetings and forget about UHS-ii, so we can only assume it was discussed and the decision was taken to not use it in the X100, and I can't believe it was any other reason but a limitation.
Another possible is try recycle old part (e.g. circuit board) for clear old stock.

I wonder how long Fujifilm will be able to keep the prices of the XT50 and XT5 so close. After watching the summit, they seem too close in the major specifications, and the size gap also narrowed. I suspect they’ll need to reduce the price of the XT50 or increase the XT5.
The other option for Fujifilm would make the X-T5 extremely scarce so the X-T50 is the only real option.
DPreview needs a thumbs down button so I can use it on this post 🤣
I hope you thought my remark was meant to be satirical, and any resemblance to any future eventualities is purely a coincidence. 😉

Since X-T50 major new feature included film simulation dial, are X-T50 firmware featuring same Film Simulation mode slider as entry level Fujifilm X-A7?

Overall, it looks like a solid camera, but it does not interest me. The XT5 is the perfect size and weight as an everyday grab and go camera, and the design is sublime, i.e., the the photography triangle controls, button layout and customization are 2nd to none. Nikon tried with the ZF, great camera, but implementation falls well short of the XT5.

The XT-50 is more gimmicky with the Film Sim dial…I love fuji film sims, but it should not be a dial IMO, although some people might love it. However, it doesn’t make the XT-50 any worse of a camera and the smaller size will appeal to many especially in the age of the cell phone.

Overall, happy to see Fuji continuing to develop and iterate their product lines not being afraid to make changes / take chances…I do wish that they would give me a GFX in the XT5 body style, I would buy one instantly.

If the X-T50 had the ISO dial the same as the X100VI, then it would have been much better IMO.

Better how? I would think most users of the X-T50 would be using Auto ISO most of the time anyway, (as I do), so a dedicated ISO dial would be of little or no use to them. I never used it on my X-T2, so it was essentially an ornament on the camera. I don't understand why some think an ISO dial is necessary or even desirable on a digital camera when there are better options of Auto ISO, or using an ISO button and a wheel to adjust it to a fixed setting, as it has been with DSLRs from the beginning, (so it's not even a retro thing). Now a Mode dial with multiple custom settings would have been a lot more useful for the X-T50, instead of the Film Sims, IMO.

If Fujifilm firmware allow assign existing ISO dial as either Max ISO or ISO or Auto SS 1/2/3; SS dial as Min SS or SS or Auto SD 1/2/3.

But the one on the X100 (and X-Pro) isn’t an additional dial, it’s integrated into the shutter speed dial. For anyone who doesn’t use it, it’s beautifully ignorable.

If you shoot with manual control of shutter speed and aperture, auto ISO is constantly there adjusting the brightness of your image. Whereas a fixed ISO won’t do that. For street I’ll sometimes shoot by using the aperture to adjust the exposure and the brightness of the final image, because in changing light conditions or high contrast light I find it quicker than constantly spinning the exposure compensation dial back and forth. In any case, I prefer to shoot with a constant ISO; the only time I don’t is with cameras like the X-E models that reset the ISO setting every time you select a custom settings bank.

DSLRs are the yardstick of retro now? 🙂 You don’t come from a time when auto ISO never existed?

Personally I don’t like using dials. Yes, they’re faster for things like wildlife and sports. But they have a habit of being knocked out of place, they don’t tell you what they’re set to, and for something like ISO in particular they’re an unsatisfying fit.

Maybe. The “IMO” is key, of course. But there are a hundred cameras out there with mode dials, including several made by Fuji. And there are some users (myself included) who have no use for a mode dial, just as you have no use for an ISO dial. I bought into Fuji because they made things that were different to everyone else. Others will too.

Some of us come from a time when ISO never existed... ;-)
