Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

I thought cormorants were waterfowl.

Lynne
True - but very boring ones :-D
They're one of my favorites, but more for some fun facts. The first time I saw one, at least to remember it, was on a trip to the Everglades. The guide showed us some, with their wings drying and said they were "hanging their laundry out to dry"! They have to do that because they aren't waterproof like ducks and things. Also, they are used for fishing in SE Asia. A strap is put around the bottom of their neck, they're put on leashes, and they can't swallow the fish, so the fisherman keeps the fish. When he's done, he rewards each of his cormorants with a big fish. Well, I think they're cool facts, anyway.😺

We once found one in very poor condition and I picked it up to take it to the local wildlife refuge. The poor thing was so riddled with lice they ran all over my hands. Even all the time it spent in salt water didn't get rid of them. I'm glad to say it made a full recovery once de-loused. I fumigated the car :-D

Dicky.

Yes, that's weird Rich. I like the birds
This one made from 3 in vertical by Autopano Giga, and I'm surprised it stitched. It put a curve in the sea wall but I'm not too particular anymore. I wasn't ready for the birds flying through or I'd have used faster shutter. Rich

Don't know how anyone has the patience for this...but if you have long dark winters I understand
We drove to Paris (Ontario) on Saturday to see the quilt show there. If was in a church. I don't much care for quilt shows in churches. The quilts are mostly laid over the backs of pews and that does not do them justice, at least the ones that deserve justice. I took a few pictures of the show and quilts, some of the stained glass windows of the church, a couple of flawed panos of the exterior and some street shots coming and going. I will present them over time.

It's a depressing thought that we may end up in prison ...

My father in law sits in a room with a river view. Only problem being that the windows are too high to see out of his wheelchair
Sorry for a gloomy post again. I hope you honor old people in your countries. We do not.

This is a typical old people's home (the red building in the center).

If you get a room on the front side you can enjoy this lovely view, Lidl's parking.

If not you can instead rest your eyes on this breathtaking panorama.

I don't get it. This town is full of old institutions, grand houses often in park like environments, that are no longer used for their original purpose. So what do they do? They turn them into offices. When they could be made into dwellings both for the young and for the old.

Hope you enjoy it Jim. Nice fox pics. They are very tame now in London
Yesterday was the start of our English Birds & Gardens tour. It was cold, windy, and rained on and off all morning, but we had a nice visit to Kew Gardens anyway. They are extensive, beautiful, and well maintained.

I got 12 new birds photographed and while there wasn't as much in bloom as we might have hoped, there were many beautiful and interesting flowers.

Some of the highlights were the rhododendron, the rock garden (where most of the blooming flowers were), the Mandarin Ducks, and the Fox Kits (we saw the fox briefly and the 3 kits for quite a bit longer).

We saw the mother briefly, and the three kits playing for longer.

Yesterday afternoon it cleared and it looks like today will be a beautiful day.

Little Jack has certainly seen better days. Nice pics though

Little Jack has sat here for many years and in all times I've visited here, I've never seen anyone near the boat.. pigeons are roosting on board.

This pile of scrap metal has been removed from the boat.

I fear Little Jack will never feel the rise of the sea beneath the keel ever again. At least not in my lifetime.

Had a long weekend meeting up with my slighly older and oldest brother in Manchester

I hadn't really been there in over 40 years. Some of it has changed a lot to be at the point of being unrecognisable...other bits not so

That there is some DeLuxe photography, Craig. The two raptors are super. I can see follicles. They eyes are great, too. These show whether or not that lens is worth the hefty price. Rich
Thank, Rich. I was able to get close and that helps. The lens is worth what I paid for it. It is really a joy to use.

Those are all great Craig.

A wonderful assortment of birds, none of which I can identify. The flower is different from any I know as well.

Post away! No one will mind!

Andrew
The varieties of life here is amazing. The Osa Peninsula is remote and loaded with wildlife.
