Finally after lot of hemming and hawing and after reading mixed reviews of the lens I decided to get it. Took it out for a spin today. I didnt do any critical testing but I think my copy is pin sharp corner to corner and well corrected for color. All handheld. I think this lens shines for landscape and even some portraiture. These shots were processed at two different times, so, some of them are missing EXIF information, but they were all (mostly) shot wide open. I never go over f/8 on this lens.

Yes this is pretty much the universal experience of anyone who has bought the lens, keep rocking it.

Just adding some of my own experience with this lens.

Personally I have no regrets getting this lens for my product shoots. i have the 45-100 and 120 and sometimes just need more reach. The GF250 although probably optically superior is also a weighty/bulky lens and too long a focal length for my use so this 100-200 is the only native lens i can use.

I use it either hand held+stabilisation on with strobe lighting or mounted on a tripod. Shooting at f8-f11.

I find it sharp enough and have had no complaints from clients on the output.

You could possibly adapt other lens brands with this focal length range but i haven't done that or looked into it.

Is how light the lens is. I hiked yesterday with it for 2 hrs and it never felt heavy to handle. I don't think it even needs a tripod collar. The 45-100 feels heavier and that doesn't have a collar.
Interesting, since according to the specs the 45-100 is actually 45g lighter. Does it feel like a difference in balance? That can make a huge difference. I'm seriously considering the 100-200 in a few months, and your observation about the handling is really helpful.

Thanks,
Sterling

I think it's because the 45-100 is bulkier and hence it seems like it carries more heft. The 45-100 balanced well as well but I have the 45-100 on the 50R vs the 100-200 on the 50SII so that might also make a difference in handling since the 50SII has a better grip. Bottomline is that it feels light for its size and for carrying a Tripod collar.

I think if you removed the tripod collar the 100-200 might actually become lighter than the 45-100. 😊

That sold me - Thanks @yogi4fitness and several others. I'm now awaiting delivery but had to shop around as most dealers had suddenly rammed the price up from £1499 to £1799 - got it at the original price and looking forward to using it.

I was like you about the lens but I decided to get one as well while it was on sale. I’m glad that I did. I also got a good copy of it and I am really enjoying it. I really like the extra reach that it provides.
