LEICA Q3 or FUJIFILM X100 VI?

The Q3 60mpix pics are pixelsharp to the corners when stopped down to say f/5.6. One has fantastic crop potential. Such a unique fixed lens camera!
Indeed the Q3 can be cropped to X100VI FoV and still almost one stop faster:

X100VI: 35mm F3 at 40MP

Q3: cropped 35mm F2.1 at 38MP

I see no reason to buy Fuji. In hand it feels cheap and the WR is only possible if you bring and attach some filters. The Q3 is IP54 all the time.

I will buy X100 VI only if I use extended lens 28mm. Is a good lens opically? Did you see some problems? Is it big X100 with 28mm like Q3?
For street photography, I don't really care much about optical quality but I know form the others there is no penalty to use a conversion lens.

This Youtube video might help you better than me...

If you're planning on starting your trip very, very soon, you only have one choice -- Leica Q2. The reason is that if you live in the United States you will not find either the Q3 or X100 VI. If you're planning on taking your trip later this year or next year, then you can think of the other two options.

Buyers are picking up new Q3s in a couple of weeks from order to receipt. It’s only if you insist on going on the list of one of the mega stores that you will wait for months.

X100VI will be pushing that lens which has the priority to be small. When you add WCL, the size advantage will disappear. Here is an old review of the X100F+WCL, not sharp as Ricoh:

Definitely Q3. You can even add the Ricoh GW-4 wide angle lens to Q3 to make it 21mm for the wider temple shots...
Polymath if you go to Tokyo, Japan for 10 days for strret and landscape photography which one camera one lens you will carry?

GR III Big Print Challenge:

I have Ricoh GRIII, and Fujifilm X-T5 and have been using both Leica Q3 and X100VI for a couple of days. Here's my take:

Leica Q3

- Lenses are REALLY GOOD. F1.7 on FF with an awesome sensor is just speical.

- The Leica menu system is way more intuitive and easier to use. I have been using Fujifilm for the past 10 years and I still find it confusing sometimes.

- The Leica's app is way better than Fujifilm's app. File transfer is faster as well

- The camera build is on another level. It's built like a luxury item

- The FL doesn't feel like 28mm to me. It's more like 27 or 26mm...

- The camera is quite heavy. Pretty much similar in size to my X-T5 + XF18mm 1.4

- It's really expensive. (that's on me tho😆) I don't feel comfortable using it as a "tool" and tossing it around like my other cameras.

Fujifilm X100VI

- Size is more compact. It's not "pocket size" tho

- Internal Flash

- OVF is fun to use

- Film simulation is my favorite thing on Fujifilm. I found myself liking the new Reala Ace a lot. Leica Look is great too(especially B&W).

- Dedicated ISO dial.

- I personally like 28mm FL better.

- Outdated battery

I decided to keep X100VI since that's more suitable for my EDC needs(Size, flash). All in all the best camera is the one you have with you more.

Maybe someday I will just get an M instead for a "true" Leica experience.

Thanks wei12345 , if YOU would choose one camera and one lens for my projects which you would choose?

I am now using Ricoh GRII for me BW street photografphy adn XT-5 for Landscapes.

Why I give 6.000$ to buy Q3? Will it offer me something great or something i dint have? If i not buy Q3 i will buy Fuji 18/1.4.

So which are the differences between Q3 and XT-5 with 18/1.4?

Thanks

Greg

SrMi you are EVERYWHERE like Leica spitit.....:-)

Your opinion?
🤣

I do not like X-T5, I am about to sell it with most of X lenses (keeping X-pro3 and X100). Since you like X-T5, my preference may not be relevant to you.

If there was no OVF, or if you do not use OVF, I would pick Leica Q.

Check out bejersey’s work posted in this forum. He has recently switched to Q (from X).

Take all the comments from all the posts from all the forums where you have posted this and make 3 columns:

1) For Q3

2) For X100VI

3) For XT5 + lens of your choice.

Do that and you should be able to make a decision. If you can’t make a decision for one of those 3, then make no decision, and keep what you have.

Didn't have a chance to read all the responses but I'll share my experiences since I've had the Q3 and now own the X100VI. Also I had the Fuji XT-5 before actually (yes...spent too much time on camera gear) but now using leica M as my main camera.

If you can afford it, I would suggest keeping your Fuji XT-5 and buying a Leica Q3 - then you get the best of both worlds. I tried having such a setup last year and it worked great but the lure of going Leica M fully called out to me so went that route instead. I missed having a Fuji camera though, which is why I bought a X100VI although not entirely sure I'll keep it yet since I already have a 35mm M-mount lens.

If you are bent on shooting jpegs, then I would go with the Fuji 100VI - they're significantly better out of the camera than the leica jpegs. Leica JPEGs are ok, not great however the moment you start raw editing, there's a richness to the images you can pull out of them that you just can't do with fuji raw files.

Another thought is if you're a photographer only, the Ricoh GR III and GR IIIx are also quite good and worth consideration. They're off my list because I want a camera with some video capability since my Leica M11 doesn't do video. Also if you care about video, I think the video output of the X100V is more pleasant to me without doing any color grading.

If image quality is your no. 1 consideration and you are willing to put the effort into some light post processing (just hit auto on Lightroom delivers wonderful results on the Q3), then the Q3 is the camera to get and don't look back.

For me personally, if I had to pick one camera, one lens without a second system, I would go with the Leica Q3. It's somewhat bigger but much more versatile and I think the image quality improvement is worth it but again the jpegs ooc are definitely mediocre.

hope this helps
Hello

I want to share some thoughts with you in order to help me choose the right camera.

I sold almost my photographic equipment and I kept only 2 cameras. Ricoh GRII and Fujifilm XT5 and some lenses ( 10-24/4 & 35/2 & 56/1,2 & 16-80/4)

My project for the next years is to visit cities and countries around the world and taking street photography and some landscape photography and publish some books with these photos.

Street photography is 80-85% of my photos now. The rest is landscape photography.

Here some key points
  1. I want to take only one camera and one lens. No big cameras, no lenses, no bags anymore. I like to be more minimalist in my philosophy to take photos and in my life generally.
  2. I shot 95% Jpeg not RAW. I know the benefits of RAW in editing, dynamic range etc but all cameras has anymore very good jpeg. And it’s ok for me. If a camera has RAW and JPEG I choose this option and keep RAW for the future when I print the books. Then I will edit my final photos for the printing. I
  3. I like 28mm not 35mm
  4. I sold my Canon and Fujis and I have 8.000$ in stock. For my new camera and for my first trips.
I read many reviews and I decided to buy one of these 2 cameras for my basic camera.

Leica Q3

Or

Fuji X100 VI with 28mm lens

Would you like please to send me your opinion about this dilemma? Which you would prefer Leica Q3 or Fuji X100VI and why?

Thank you

Greg Plat.

Is anyone looking at keeping both Q3 and X100VI?

I Currently have Q3 that is paired along with my A7RV and a Ricoh GRIII. prior to the Q3 I had X100, X100S, X100F, X100V and always loved that camera. I do feel the the Q3 is superior in most aspects but at times is a little large. That’s why I bought the GRIII, I love the form factor but my herniated disk is not a fan of not having a tilt screen option.

I have a X100VI on pre-order and was told that Im close and planned on selling the GRIII but am starting to think that it would almost kill the fact of having a smaller lighter camera that I can toss in a small pack and have a capable camera on motorcycle trips when I don’t want to carry the Q3 or a larger Sony setup.

Yes. Unfortunately, no camera is perfect, and I can afford both.

Congrats - make sure you buy it new from an authorized dealer. My Leica Q3 crapped out after 1 month of use and Leica replaced it. I heard similar horror stories about the M11 too. I would buy a Leica M lens used but after my experience with the Q3, I would try to buy new if possible for cameras or wait until it becomes mature.
