Like the G95 refresh, I suspect this happened simply because they are running out of the old parts.

It's a shame they didn't at least implement USB power supply, but I guess there just isn't any room for that in the thing.

Is it even coming to non-Japanese markets? No announcements elsewhere as far as I can see.

Confrontation beats confirmation.

Maybe it indicates that there is no G100 II coming

The only upgrade is USB-C and OLED EVF.

I'm very disappointed.
Basically a refresh to comply with the EU requirements. I guess the message is clear: if you want a modern, competent body you go big in m4/3 or go home.
I'm kinda happy it's a rehash of the same camera because it leave the door open to the true successor of the GX series with a 25-megapixel sensor.

With the rumours Panasonic are working on replacing three premium cameras (GH6, S1H and the S1R), we have to wait for a while for the G9/GH7 etc to trickle down into the rest of the G series

I wonder what OMDS will do with the OM-5 which I think also needs a refresh for the same reason (by 31 Dec 2024).

I don't think we're ever getting another GX-series camera. The issue is that only Sony seems to consider the RF-styled bodies as worthy of top tier features. Everyone else treats them as cheap entry-level bodies.

I am disappointed that the G100 didn't get a proper refresh, as it is actually ergonomically a very pleasant body and I vastly prefer how Panasonic does things to how Olympus does. All this means is my one remaining GM5 will soldier on and I will use my other cameras for everything else. Congrats m4/3 manufacturers on continuing not to target a buyer who spends a lot.

or simply go home. the wait is over.

There is a double lenses kit with 12-32 and 45-150. I think it will replace GX85 worldwide.
I was hoping that the GX85 would hang around for quite some time, I don’t think there are many cameras still on the market that are as old. I was beginning to think of it as the equivalent of a Pentax K camera, which didn’t change its design for many years but kept selling, and gained cult-like status. The GX85 has so much to recommend it as a “jack of all trades” camera. I know technology marches on, but eight years after its introduction the GX85 still gets the job done for many people.

IBIS schmibis, everybody go buy a gimbal!

Kind of a parts bin special. Would like to see what they could do in a small rugged camera for adventuring--their take on an OM-5.

Cheers,

Rick

Definitely no reasons for current users to "upgrade" to the new version. Hopefully Panasonic does a better job marketing this one. The G100 is a fantastic for stills. it shouldn't be pigeonholed as a vlogging camera.

May be premature to whip out the pitchforks!

If this is to be believed, there is an updated sensor with 25.2 MP, 779 point phase-detection AF system, 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit video recording, and a single UHS-II SD slot.

I would like to see Panny/OM focus some more efforts on the small camera market, since that plays to one of the strengths of the MFT format. That's coming from an E-M5 III user who wants a lot of camera in small package; that camera and the GX7 were my favorite cameras. And though this G100 II doesn't have everything I'd like to see, it's a welcome step in the right direction. Again, if true, and kudos to Panasonic for continuing to develop new cameras for the platform.

One site I'm seeing is claiming the new version to have the 25mp phase detect AF sensor, 4k60 and a few other minor improvements. No IBIS mentioned, though not expected in an entry level camera. TBH, having the G100 with OIS lenses, I don't see any less stability over my GX85 that has IBIS.

After the poor reception of the G100, I'm delighted Panasonic to keep interest in this camera. It's all good for MFT.

I wonder how will those paid reviewer / youtuber praise this, maybe "my eyes are feeling much better now with OLED", or "now I don't have to bring an extra micro usb cable which is a huge benefit"?

This is just a mild refresh not a true successor. Doesn't mean there won't be a true successor with proper updates.

that's to me the #1 issue of the current G100. Other than that rear dial which I think will go damaged relatively quick.

I am disappointed there's no love for a GM5 form factor but this is close in some ways :-)

But I would agree they should have done phase detect AF at this point wit the AI support.

And the new 25MP sensor. Ah well.

You get a 20Mpix camera and an OIS lens for £569. Hard to complain about what it’s missing.

Maybe what you want is a GX10 for a lot more money.

micro four thirds is OM1, Panasonic G9 and GH territory beyond that it is the smartphone oasis. Put away your pirate maps there is no treasure where X marks the spot.

The G100 was marketed as a vlogging camera. In 2023, it's main competitor is the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 with it's 20mm f/5.4 equivalent and a built-in gimbal.

The only lens with OIS that can come close to 20mm f/5.4 equivalent is the 12-35mm f/2.8 (24mm f/5.6 equivalent) with a severe 1.26x crop in 4K, which will be much more expensive as a package and larger as well. Without IBIS, the G100 has no chance to compete in the vlogging space in 2023.
