Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

Your pelicans are much more photogenic and amusing than our bogan variety.

Dicky.

Very nice images Charlotte, I love to see snow, but only want to be near it when skiing :-D

Your shadow looks to be well rugged up. Do you wear gloves in those conditions? I wondered how you change settings on the camera with gloves on.

Dicky.

PS. Send us some snow we are wilting as the temperature climbs above 30 degrees C.

Although only half a kilo heavier it is rather bulky. I can still hand hold it at 500mm but think I will struggle if I add the MC-14.

Well pleased with close up.

Hoverfly.
Hoverfly.

DOF is nice and thin.

Couldn't quite get square on but did manage to focus on its head.

The sky hasn't been too clear for a moon shot and I don't really like a full moon.

OK, fumble fingers didn't wind it right round to 500mm.

Its going to take a while to learn to master this lens.

We've got cold, but still bare ground.

Thanks for the reminder of what is to come!

Nice - the moon shot is really clear and sharp.

Enjoy the new lens.

Thanks Dicky. A few years ago when the youngsters were smaller I shot at 1/250 s. Now that some are approaching 6 ft tall (the grandson is I believe 6 ft 2 in) I have had to increase the shutter speed to 1/400 s. Even then it is sometimes not fast enough, certainly many times for no blur of the puck.

They mate for life Dicky and may be together for 20 years. They return to the same burrow yearly and have a single egg to hatch and raise. Good thing because they seem to eat a lot!

Nice to see Dicky. You did well with the 300 mm and the 1.4 TC so I thing you will manage just fine with this new lens. You have more to shoot at than I do here. We have lots of small birds but not as many larger birds, other than water fowl and some hawks and eagles. The hawks and eagles around here are very difficult to get as they fly off readily or are already flying high in the sky. Turkey vultures are a dime a dozen though, but rather ugly.

The shots of the hoverfly are nice and sharp, Dicky. I just manage to hand hold at 500mm. I tried the 1.4x teleconverter, but 700mm needs a more steady hand than mine to hand hold at that focal length. Rich

Thanks, Dicky. The sky here has been plain blue for several days with intense sun too bright for photography. A week of rain is forecast starting tomorrow. If the storm comes in with breaks between the rain I may get some more nice skies to photograph. Rich

I love snow Charlotte. Our last few winters have been mild and wet. Not good for photography or anything else for that matter.

I like this set of images especially the second one. I like the colours and the way the snow is lying on the edges of the door and window sill. The snowman was well spotted.

The selfie doesn't really help me spot you in a crowd.😂
Thanks. The colours are realistic. I don't know why it is we have street lights with very different colour temperature. Those yellow ones in the first pictures are rather nice, like in old times, but may look odd in photos. Didn't want to change it though. A period we had very blue lights, at least on large roads. That was a nasty light, very uncomfortable, even disturbing when driving.

Well, I've gotten fatter but I'm not as fat as my shadow! ;-)

Thank you. At least you aren't afraid of the snow. I had an email pal in Croydon for many years. She demanded all sorts of information about snow. Even made me try to record the squeeking sound when walking in dry snow (didn't succeed). She had seen snow once and even touched it. She remembered it as a totally horrible experience. :-)

Oh yes. I'm not fond of the low buttons and wheels on the OM, so it surprises me that I actually can handle them with gloves. Thin leather gloves, that is. Won't work with padded gloves or mittens, I think.
Dicky.

PS. Send us some snow we are wilting as the temperature climbs above 30 degrees C.
For once I'm not envious. But I will be in a while. ;-)

Oh wow, you have bought the big white! Congratulations! NOW I'm envious. ;-)

I think you can be pleased with those pictures. If I was better with long lenses I could be tempted too, but I can't even handle what I've got. It's definitely not in my price range, but as it looks now the castle will never happen, so could as well do a Rich and spend what I've got.

Sorry for being explicit, but what the heck is hanging from the back end of the roo? Especially the frontmost thing in the first picture. Surely it can't be what I'd expect to see there? 😨

Interesting stuff here in Cali... lots of obscure in little towns along either side of the Sierra Nevadas. Thanks for the info.
My favorite "obscure little town" is Hornitos in the southern Mother Lode district. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure both Studebaker and Ghirardelli got their starts there - Studebaker for sure - and I think the real Grizzly Adams is buried in the cemetery there - if not him, someone else of similar fame. As I said, it's been a while, I definitely need to go back one of these days.

I see what you mean about roos and Charlotte's red condom thingies . . .
