It appears to be aware of you yet not concerned. That's the advantage of a very long lens like this. I like how it's partially obscured yet the important parts are visible creating a neural look.

Love this church but blew out the clouds. Must have moved the exposure compensation dial when I got the camera out of the bag. I would love to have seen that mural on the other building during its heyday. You can see part of the kachina dancer on the right hand side of the building. I've driven past here several times and never noticed the mural remnants until today.

I photographed this green heron in late August. Both photos were taken with it mostly hidden by deferent trees branches.

1) It was very well hidden. It's movement let me find it

Ulrik, these are really nice and a unique look at autumn. I’m really disappointed with my autumn images this year and trying to find something other than what has been photographed a million times before. I appreciate this perspective.

From time to time, i like to shoot some 360° pictures, especially on geometric places and then use the Balloon projection from Flexify2 to create something different.
It's not easy to match all the lines since managing a pole at 2 or even 3m by hand can make you sweat very quickly, you need to be fast on the shooting pattern to avoid repeated persons (as much as possible) and the perfect center spot is not always free by obstacles.
Those two are an example, both were printed 70x70cm.
Stunning images, great work.

I've done 360 images but never projected them like that. It's quite Escher-like.

Sadie Jane is a cutie!

Beautiful! Love those mountains.

Sadly, we left the west for the year.

I really like the lighting and composition. Lovely.

Very cool, Joe! Are they noisy?

Migrating snow geese gather briefly on a lake near our home in the tens of thousands. Spectacular to see and so loud that you have to yell to be heard over them.

Make sure you don't look up to watch them with your mouth open. :-)

Great series.

Today is Week Ten on the road.

We are in Michigan now. Our good friend, Dave, wanted to hunt ruffed grouse here, but had no one to go with, so we left Montana a few days ago and moved our camp to the forests of Michigan to provide him with a "home" and to hunt with him and his setter, Jack. I've never hunted ruffs in Michigan, so this is new to me.

A few pics from before we left. Death of a Deere:

We did our last western hunt of the year in one of our favorite spots - private land right on the Canadian border - a truly remote and rugged place. Since Joy is 9 years old and who knows what another year will bring for her (or us), she got to hunt that day. It was a grueling day, but productive.

The sheer scale of the place is hard to comprehend unless you can actually be there. Nancy got some hard-earned shooting on our last day.

Last western sharptail grouse and pheasant of the year. I should have had at least one Hun as well, but I missed a fairly easy shot.

I hated to leave, but temps will be in the low single digits and major snow is coming into northern Montana this week. We drove for three and a half looong days across northern Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was very heartening for me to note that we were driving through mostly unspoiled wilderness during all of those many hours and many hundreds of miles. Gives one hope for future generations that such land still exists!! The dogs often perch on poor Nancy's lap while I drive the big rig.

Numerous mechanical issues on the way. We crossed the Mackinac Straights between Lake Superior and Lake Michigan on the Mackinac Bridge. Thankfully, it wasn't windy, as that can be a big issue on that bridge with a vehicle like mine - cars have actually been blown entirely off the bridge. Heading up the incline:

The whole bridge sways in the wind:

Finally made it to "Grouse Camp" in Michigan.

I spent the first day in "Grouse Camp" in Michigan fixing things on the MH - the hydraulic leveling jacks kept coming down while we were driving; the windshield wipers failed, etc, etc. Nancy hit the laundromat and the grocery store in a nearby town. Ever since then, it has been pouring cold rain, so we haven't gotten out to hunt at all as yet. The dogs are starting to bounce off the walls, after days on the road and now days of rain. Hanging out inside with our friend, Dave, and the three bird dogs hoping the rain will end.

It looks like we will only have about a week here, before the snow and cold temps will force us to head back home. More later, Red Gods willin'.

I like the processing.

That image of the houses on the cliff overlooking the ocean looks unreal - almost like something out of Game of Thrones. Nice, Bob!

Thanks, Greg.

The noise they make is incredible!

That seems like a good tip when viewing them :)

That second shot of yours is fantastic!

Regards,

Joe.

Thank you. I live 4+ hours away (when the passes are open) in Denver. It is a special place due to very high precipitation both summer and winter.
