Hi, I have been away from wildlife photography for a few years but would like to get back at it. I have Fuji X-T4 with fringer pro 2 adapter, a sigma 150-600mm sport and sigma 500mm f4 sport. Im ok sattisfied with the setup but when i saw that both canon r7 and fuji x-t5 support eye tracking on birds and animals i felt the need for an upgrade.

So i would like to upgrade to a new camera body for these 2 lenses. I saw that there were some focus issues with the r7 using these sigma ef lenses (not sure if this have been solved or is still a problem). I haven’t been able to find any info on xt5 + finger + eye detect + adopted leneses, so the upgrade here is totally unknown to me.

There might off cause be cameras and brands I have overlooked that may suite my lenses well, if there is please let me know...

It would be great with some input regarding what camera body I should consither.

I've heard there are AF issues with the R7 that Canon has acknowledged. I'm a Fuji shooter and used to use the X-T3 before upgrading the the X-H2s. The X-T5 will operate much the same as your X-T4 yet the X-H2s is a much faster camera in both focus speed, tracking. It has a PASM layout yet all the menus are similar to your X-T4. If you shoot birds in flight, then the X-H2s is a much better choice. Also, the new Fringer adapters are weather resistant, you might want to upgrade your adapter for the feature.

Thank you Morris, I will have a look at XH2s for sure. Do you get access to the fancy stuff like face and eye detect while using lenses trough fringer adapter? I could really need some electronic support for capturing birds in flight. I will for sure have a look at the weather sealed fringer as well if I decide to stick with fuji for birds and wildlife.

If the tracking and detection works well it actually sounds like XH2s is a better camera for old canon optics than the for example the R7. Are you content with you current setup?

The subject detection operates in camera, so the fringer and lens combo will not make a difference. There is a thread in the Fuji forum about subject detection which might be worth checking out.

Regardless, you should find an improvement in AF speed due to an improved AF algorithm and faster processor in any of the newest cameras (X-T5, X-H2, X-H2S) compared to the X-T4.

Morris has some recommended AF settings (he should have come up with a way to monetise them as he would be raking it in by now!) - they may be in that thread in the Fuji forum or perhaps he’ll post the link here.

Thee are the AF settings I recommend for the newer Fuji bodies with subject tracking.

The experience using Nikon and Canon lenses with the Fringer adapter on Fuji bodies is the same as using Fuji lenses though you may get the added features of the adapted lens, for example clutch focus.

I have the Canon R7 and Fuji XH2S and I never use the R7 anymore. The autofocus is just not dependable enough for me. I love the image quality of the R7 but it just misses too many shots. The XH2S works great with my EF lenses 500 F4 II and 100-400 II. I also have the Sigma 150-600 sport but havent tried it on the XH2S yet.

Hi, thanks for the enlightment. I though that there is software on camera, lens and adapter that talk together. With the not ideal performance with EF lenses on the Canon R system made me a bit afraid that there are similar issues with fuji.

Will check this out for sure :)

I guess that this is a fairly good indicator that the XH2s is a better pick than the R7. Thanks :) I guess you are using the weather sealed fringer as well?

Yes, I have the weather sealed fringer adapter too. Bad thing is, it came out 1.5 weeks after I bought the pro II fringer, so I have a spare now too lol.

Ditto for me with the Nikon version. Typical, eh?!
Yeah that kind of sucks. But look at it the other way, now you have an adapter to put on an cheaper camera :)

Better, you can now marry an adapter to two lenses maxing them into X mount lenses.

I had inside information that the WR models were in design and was starting to question if they would be released as it was nearly a year from when I heard till they came out. I'm thrilled to have the WR version for my Nikon 500 PF. At least for now, I don't see the need to make my Canon 200mm f 2.8 L WR.
