The New GF55 f1.7

I got to decide between this and the 30mm TSE. In the end I will probably get both.

Where did you pre order and what did they tell you?

Amazon has it as pre order but when you get the camera they give you an estimated delivery date of September 27th. I suspect you will get your lens way before Christmas since release is September 26.

B&H. I just did a web order and no expected delivery date.

I got my order in this morning. I’ve been anxiously awaiting this lens.
Ive been waiting for this one as well as 35-50mm (FF equivalent) is my preferred street FL. I love the 45/2.8 and hopefully this will be even better. I expect the glass fidelity (MTF, falloff, corner to corner sharpnesses) to be stellar like all the other GF glass. The only thing that will kill it for me is the focussing speed and CA (like it did for the 80/1.7) . If its on par with the 110 then I am in. Ill wait for the reviews before I pull the trigger.
Hopefully I can get one of the first batch. If not, oh well, maybe for Christmas.

I can hardly wait to see how much dust is in it. 😂

If the MTF charts on Fuji’s web site are accurate I would guess it’s rendering will be more in line with GF80 than the GF110.

I hear 11 blade aperture than typical 9 blade.

Smoother bokeh?

The GF80 MTF is stellar, second only to the venerable 110 (according to Jim's tests). The problem however isn't the MTF but the high amount of LoCA in the GF80. And from what I hear the focusing is loud and hesitant unlike the 110 that is silent and fast. If Fuji addressed both those issues in the GF55, then I am in.

11 blades should definitely give smoother bokeh. I don't want octagonal bokeh balls when the lens is stopped down even one stop. As you can tell i am a bokeh whore.

yes that's what one reviewer was saying.

I never ever have any problems with noise. Do you shoot video or pictures? AF is just as good as 110mm f2 in real life, which means both are slow IMHO. I have both and after getting my 80mm my 110mm is sitting in the closet. Next outdoor shoot, I will try to take my 110mm for a change.

Edited:- 55mm review says, silent DC motor and they mention AF so let us hope it is all good.

I only shoot pictures and I am only speaking from what I heard from reviewers. I dont have the 80/1.7

Again based on reviews seems like the 80 motors are sluggish.

Again I have no experience.

I am sure the 80/1.7 makes gorgeous images but I prefer the 85mm (FF equivalent) as a portrait lens. The 55/1.7 will fit in my street FL hence I am looking forward to it. Once I get the 55, my GAS for GF glass will end (said no one ever) :-)

My most used lens on Canon was 85L II. Slow AF but I am not shooting sports with it so worked perfectly. Nothing better than buying the lens and trying yourself. I also used to like longer focal lengths for portraits. Then slowly I moved from 200mm (FF) to 135 to 85 and now liking the look of around 65mm (FF with 80mm GF) when shooting outside. It gives more space around the model which was missing with 110mm.

Completely agree. You capture more of the environment with the 80. I even like the 45 for environmental portraits and that’s where I think the new 55 will shine.

Amazing shot BTW.

Has anyone seen any samples images that might give us an idea of the rendering?

I like the idea that the 11 blades could give very round bokeh.

But more importantly for me is to know whether it prioritises background smoothness, like the GF63/2.8, or transition zone smoothness, like the GF50/3.5.

Personally hoping it's more the latter, but somehow I feel that's unlikely.

I do wish the MFD was a little shorter and the magnification a little greater, though 50cm and 0.17x is just about ok.

This lens has made me even more of a conspiracy theorist that the 53.4x40 is coming. The 80mm helping but now this!
